Repertoire

The repertoire of the choir includes more than 300 works of both Russian ( Taneyev , Rimsky-Korsakov , Glinka , Sviridov , Shostakovich [1] ) and foreign composers of the XVII — XX centuries, arrangements of Russian folk songs and songs of the peoples of the world, as well as works of modern Karelian composers ( E. Patlaenko , G. Vavilov , R. Pergament , N. Mishukov , V. Sergeenko ) [2] . The choir was also the first performer of Valery Kalistratov 's Session “Session”.

History

The academic choir of PetrSU was organized on August 29, 1962 by choirmaster and professor Georgy Yervandovich Teratsuyants [3] . Until 1962, choirs also appeared at the PetrSU , but they were short-lived and were of a seasonal nature [4] . From the very beginning, the band gives about 30 concerts a year [1] and tours annually in Russia and foreign countries. Throughout its existence, the team actively speaks at university events. The first major victory of the academic choir of PetrSU is its successful performance in the Chapel of them. Glinka in 1965 [4] . In 1967, the team was awarded the title of Laureate of the All-Union Festival of Amateur Art, dedicated to the 50th anniversary of Soviet power, and in the same year, by the decision of the Komsomol Committee of the University, the academic choir of PSU was nominated for the title of Karelian Komsomol Prize Laureate [1] .

In 1972, the team first participated in the inter-republican student competition “Juventus” and since then has repeatedly taken part in it [5] . The first foreign tours took place in Czechoslovakia in 1974 [5] . In 1975, the choir was admitted to the Student Academic Choirs Club of Leningrad [6] .

In December 1976, speaking in Leningrad at the All-Union Festival of the North-Western Zone of the RSFSR, the choir performed the work of the Italian composer A. Lotti “Crucifixus” . The performance was rated by the highest score, but an essay in Latin with religious overtones was not welcomed by ideological leadership. Subsequently, in no official statement , the group was again allowed to sing “Crucifixus” [7] .

In 1987, former participants who had already completed university studies were invited to the choir. G. E. Teratsuyants noted this event as a new stage in the history of the team [8] .

After the collapse of the USSR, the geography of performances of the choir of PetrSU expanded. The team began to travel to European countries such as Germany (1995), Austria (2000), Sweden (2005), Finland (2006), France (2007) [9] .
