Story

Sven, Goran and Patrick

Sven and Goran are a young Swedish gay family who move to a quiet suburb to start a new life and adopt a child. The fact that a couple of gays settled in the neighborhood, not everyone is happy. But no one expresses displeasure at a meeting. Sven was already married and he has a sixteen-year-old daughter with whom he still can not find a common language. He has normal relations with his ex-wife, and sometimes she comes to him with her daughter.

Yoran - arranged by a therapist at a local clinic, Sven continues to work as a manager in his company. They submit documents for adoption, but receive the answer that the legislation of most countries does not allow children to be adopted by same-sex families, and they can only rely on a Swedish or Danish child, but the chances of getting him are small. Yoran is very worried because of this, because he so wanted to adopt a child.

After some time, a notice arrives at their address, which says that they can adopt a one and a half year old baby named Patrick. But instead, a fifteen-year-old teenager named Patrick knocks on their house. When they all go together to social services to find out, they find out that the guy has several drives to the police and has committed a number of crimes by the age of fifteen. But since he has nowhere to go, he remains until the end of the proceedings at their home. Because of all this, Sven breaks down, who begins to drink, and Patrick gets drunk the first night and tries to escape from them, mistaking him for pedophiles . The next day, Sven and Goran try to hand the guy over to the police, but they don’t take Patrick there, because this time he did not commit anything illegal. Instead, Sven was arrested for insulting the police. Yoran is trying to establish normal relations with Patrick. When Sven and Joran come to the social service, they are told that there was no mistake, and this Patrick is the only opportunity to adopt a child. Yoran, who has established normal relations with Patrick in a few days, decides to leave him, and Sven quarrels with Yoran about this and leaves for good.

It turns out that Patrick is a good gardener. He not only begins to care for flowers in his yard, but also hires a gardener to his neighbors. They, together with Yoran, start running in the mornings and become friends. Yoran decides to adopt Patrick, but since Sven has left and the family as such is no longer there, you have to collect all the documents for adoption again. But then a nuisance arises: a family appears who decides to adopt Patrick. For many years they could not pick up his family, and it was at that moment that they decide to adopt him. At this time, Sven returns to Yoran. Their relationship is improving, they are together again, and Patrick Sven takes it very differently. Patrick leaves for a new family, but not for long, at the end he returns to Sven and Yoran, where, in his opinion, his real family is. And together they decide to get a dog.

  • “Patrick 1.5 is a very nice and well made film. It could be safely recommended for viewing by the whole family, if not for a couple of frank love scenes. ” (Christopher Null) [2]
  • “Cleverly combining restrained romance and gentle humor, director Ella Lemhagen easily and, as if with a friendly wink, touches on difficult topics, including such a delicate topic as sexual orientation .” (Jannet Catsoulis) [3]
