The station was built in 1949 , has access roads to the Kai plants, as well as a branch to the Novo-Irkutsk Thermal Power Plant , ensuring a constant supply of fuel. On Kai, wagons with consumer goods are unloaded; suburban trains stop [2] , and until 2008 some passenger trains stopped. Since 2008, the stop of all passenger trains at the station has been canceled. From the city side, the station is crossed by the federal highway M55 , the bridge of which is located directly above the tracks.
The name of the station comes from the Kai River. Not far from the railway there is a relic Kai grove , on the territory of which is one of the largest sites of an ancient man in Siberia.
