In the 90s. XIX century The construction of the Kiev-Poltava-Lozovaya line of the private Moscow-Kiev-Voronezh railway began. The station and station of this road in Poltava were finally commissioned in 1901 . In the same year, regular train traffic began along the Kiev - Poltava line, in 1903 - along the Poltava - Lozovaya line.
After the revolution, the station, called Poltava-Kievskaya, and the entire line to the station. Darnitsa moved to the Southern Railway with a center in Kharkov.
In 1933, the Romodan - Grebenka - Darnitsa section with a total length of 206.27 km went to the South-Western Railway (Kiev). The Romodan - Grebenka section was soon returned to the South Railway. At the same time, the Poltava-Kievskaya station, like the entire Poltava-Romodan line, was part of the South Railway.
During the Great Patriotic War , the fascist army was attacked along the line on which the station is located.
September 23, 1943 Poltava was liberated and a new stage in the history of the station began. In the post-war period, the station and the station were completely restored.
The new building of the passenger station was built in 1965 by the architect Zinaida Kotlyarova.
The first trolleybus line No. 1 (existing to this day), which connected both city stations, was drawn to the station.
Over time, the station became one of the largest freight stations in Ukraine. Near the station, a turbomechanical, oil extraction plant, a bakery, a meat processing plant and others were built. Access roads have been laid to the plants. At the moment, a large confectionery factory also operates near the station.
The station is based Poltava mechanized distance loading and unloading (MCH-4).
In 2002, the electrification of the Sagaidak-Poltava-Kievskaya line was completed, and the reconstruction of the station complex and the station square was completed.
On July 11 of the same year, the station solemnly met the first Ukrainian high-speed train - the Stolichny Express No. 161/162 with the Kharkiv-Kiev service. Thus, Poltava became the second city in Ukraine to adopt the express train.
Since 2002, a high-speed train began to walk daily.
In November 2002, the movement of the second βCapital Expressβ No. 163/164 by the Kharkov-Kiev service began.
In 2002, the Poltava Contact Network District (ECHK-9), which is a structural unit of the Poltava Power Supply Distance (ECH-4), was created at the station to service the contact network devices, automatic blocking lines and longitudinal power supply lines. In 2002, the staff of the Poltava-Kievskaya station won the industry competition among freight stations on the Ukrainian railway network.
In May 2003, an electric train arrived in Poltava: the daily running of electric trains ER9M , ER9P of the Grebenok depot along the route Grebenka - Poltava-Kievskaya began.
In March 2006 at Art. Poltava-Kievskaya grand opening of the movement of the accelerated train No. 179/180 "Ltava" on the route Poltava-Kiev took place.
In May 2007, the movement of electric trains from Poltava-Kievskaya to the stations Vakulentsi and Kolomak began.
