Biography

From childhood, he learned to play the piano, at the age of 11 he picked up a guitar. Already at the age of 15 he was a member of the Mariani band playing psychedelic rock. In 1974, he joined the Electromagnets group, which was unable to attract the attention of record companies and broke up in 1977.

Later, along with drummer Bill Maddox and bassist Kyle Brock, they formed a trio. In the late 70s, they recorded their first album, Seven Worlds, however, due to various disputes, it was officially released only in 1998.

In the early 80s, Eric worked as a session guitarist with musicians such as Christopher Cross , Carol King and Kat Stevens .

In 1986, Eric released his most respected debut album, “Tones,” with nine solo-burning tracks that attracted Johnson to the attention of guitarists around the world.

Eric Johnson was able to fully realize his talent on the album “Ah Via Musicom” (1990). The guitarist impressed with the trademark’s superb melody and the Cliffs of Dover instrumental Grammy, and simply blew the roof with his singing on several tracks, including the sweet-pitiful Desert Rose.

The song "Rain" from the album "Alien Love Child (Live & Beyond)", released in 2001, was nominated in 2002 for Grammy as "Best Instrumental Pop Performance".

In 2002, Eric restricted the ability to download his Souvenir album from the Internet, but later decided to offer fans a draft copy of the album.

Guitar Player Magazine named Eric the best guitar player five times. The Austin Chronicle's in 2000 calls him the best guitarist of the decade. In April 2005, at the Austin Music Awards, Johnson won the Musician of the Year, Best Electric Guitarist, and Best Acoustic Guitarist awards.

In the summer of 2005, Johnson released Bloom, a highly acclaimed critique. A little later, his live album “Live From Austin TX” was released, once again demonstrating the extraordinary talent of this artist.
