In 1897, the county's population was 95,251 people , including Russians - 88,361 , Karelians - 5808 [3] .

In 1917, the county had 1,079 settlements; The county consisted of 19 volosts [4] :

  1. Belskaya volost, center - the village of Bel;
  2. Berezoryadsky volost, center - the village of Beryozovsky Ryadok .
  3. Borovensk parish, center - Borovno graveyard.
  4. Butler parish (created in 1900 ), the center is the village of Palace ;
  5. Dubrovsky volost, center - Ascension graveyard;
  6. Edrovsky volost, center - the village of Edrovo ;
  7. Zhabensky volost, center - the village of Zhabny ;
  8. Zimogorsky volost, center - the village of Zimogorye ;
  9. Ivanteyevsky volost, center - Ivanteyevo village;
  10. Ilyatinsky volost, center - Ilyatino village;
  11. Kemetsky volost, center - the village of Kemtsy ;
  12. Medvedevskaya volost, center - the village of Medvedevo;
  13. Novotroitsky volost, center - Novotroitskoye village;

In March 1918, 3 more volosts were allocated in Valdai County:

  1. Berezovskaya volost (from part of the Borovensk volost), the center is the village of Beryozovka;
  2. Domkinsky volost (from a part of the Zhabensky volost), the center - Domkino;
  3. Kotlovanovskaya volost (from part of the Kemetskaya volost), the center is Kotlovanovo.

By the decisions of the Novgorod city executive committee of June 7 and July 22, 1918 and the collegium of the management department of the Novgorod city executive committee of October 12, 1918, the Bologovsky district was formed from 11 volosts of the Valdai district: Beryozoryadsky, Domkinskaya, Dubrovskaya, Zhabenskaya, Kemetskaya, Kotlovanovskaya, Medvedevskaya, Rozhdestvenskaya , Sopkinskaya and Khotilovskaya. But the decisions of the Novgorod city executive committee were not approved by the highest authorities, and on March 20, 1919, at a joint meeting of the Congress of Soviets of the Bologovsky and Valdai counties, the counties were reunited in the Valdai County, and the volosts of the former Bolgov County were again incorporated into the Valdai County. The city of Bologoye became the county center from April 1, 1919, but from October 1920, the center of the Valdai County was again moved to the city of Valdai.

In accordance with the decree of the Novgorod city executive committee of June 28, 1918, settlements of the Rabezh volost (Glebovo, Golenek (Govenok), Gorodets, Dobraya, Orekhovka, Orlovo, Osinovka (Osinka), Podoklinye (Podolishie), Turskaya) were transferred to the Sosnitskaya volost of the Ostashkovsky district Tver province . In accordance with the decision of the Valdai district executive committee of July 8, 1918, the village of Lovnitsa of the Berezoryadsky volost and two villages of the Ryutinsky volost: Korpino and Lyubitovo, were listed in the Kemetsky volost. By a resolution of the management department of the Novgorod city executive committee of February 25, 1919, the 1918 transfer of the village of Lviv from Ryutinsky volost to Dubrovsky volost was approved.

On April 4, 1919, the settlements of Zamost, Kuzmino and Naumovskoye were transferred to the Berezoryadsky volost of the former Bologovsky district from the Pereluchsky volost of Borovichi district , and on March 4, the Navolok volost with the center in the village of Navolok was formed from separate villages of the Belskaya and Ivanteyevsky volosts. In October 1919, the abolished Berezovskaya volost entered the Borovensky volost.

On April 14, 1921, it was decided by the meeting of the board of the management department of the Novgorod Provincial Executive Committee that the Borozdovo and Uglovskoe rural societies of the Boroveno volost of the Valdai district be included in the Yablon volost of the Borovichi district, but the Borozden village community (Borozdovskoe rural settlement) by the NKVD resolution of May 12, 1921 was transferred to the Ryadovsky volost of Borovichi district, and the Uglovsky rural society (settlement Uglovka ) was transferred to the Yablonovskaya volost of Borovichi district and by a resolution of the management department of the Novgorod city executive committee of October 28, 1921, the Uglovka was then transferred to the Shegrinsky volost of Borovichi district. In November 1921, the Kotlovanov volost was abolished, and the settlements of the abolished volost were included in the Kemets volost.

In accordance with the decree of the All-Russian Central Executive Committee of May 2, 1922, the Kitovskaya, Krestetskaya and Rakhinskaya volosts of the abolished Krestetskiy district entered the Valdai district .

The Presidium of the Valdai District Executive Committee on November 14, 1922 approved the renaming of two volosts in connection with the fifth anniversary of the October Revolution. The Zimogorsky volost was renamed to Krasnoye Oktyabrskaya, and Medvedevskaya was renamed to Leninsky, the resolution of the small presidium of the Novgorod Provincial Executive Committee of March 13, 1923 approved the renaming of Medvedev volost Instead of the Red October Revolution, the Zimogorsk parish was called the Red Army, but the Presidium of the All-Russian Central Executive Committee, by a decision of April 27, 1923, reversed the decision of the Novgorod Provincial Executive Committee the renaming of the above counties.

In accordance with the decree of the All-Russian Central Executive Committee of April 3, 1924, volosts in the county were enlarged (9 out of 24 previous volosts were formed):

  1. The Berezaysky volost, centered in the village at the station of Berezayka , was re-formed from the abolished Dubrovsky, Ryutinsky and Sopkinsky volosts;
  2. Valdai volost, with its center in the city of Valdai, was re-formed from the abolished Butler, Zimogorsk, Ivanteev, Navolok and Yazhelbetsk volosts;
  3. Edrovsky volost, centered in the village of Edrovo, was enlarged by the annexation of the abolished Ilyatinsky volost and part of the settlements of the former Belsky volost;
  4. The Kemetsky volost, centered in the village of Kemtsy, was enlarged by the annexation of the abolished Berezoryadsky volost;
  5. The Krestetsky volost, centered in the city of Kresttsy , was enlarged by the accession of the abolished Rakhinsky volost;
  6. The Luchka volost, centered in the village of Luchki, was re-formed from the abolished Borovenskaya, Kitovskaya and Novotroitskaya volosts;
  7. Medvedev volost, centered in the village of Medvedev, was enlarged by the accession of the abolished Khotilov volost;
  8. Rabezh parish, with its center in the village of Rabezh, was enlarged by the accession of part of the settlements of the abolished Beli volost;
  9. Firovsky volost, centered in the village at the station of Firovo , was re-formed from the abolished Domkinskaya, Zhabenskaya, Rozhdestvensky volosts and part of the settlements of the former Belsky volost.

In accordance with the decision of the expanded Presidium of the Novgorod Provincial Executive Committee of July 8, 1925, the center of the Luchkinskoy volost from the estate of Pogostikh was transferred to the village of Lokotsko, and the volost on August 31, 1925 was renamed Lokotska. By a resolution of the plenum of the Valdai district executive committee on June 16, 1925, the volost center of the Medvedevsky volost was transferred from Medvedev to the city of Bologoye .

In Valdai County, by the decision of the Small Presidium of the Novgorod Provincial Executive Committee of December 3, 1926, national (Estonian) village councils were created in Krestetsky volost:

  1. Bugry-Kamzovsky National Village Council (Bugry-Kamzovo colony);
  2. Bugry-Liman National Village Council (Bugry-Limany colony, Kuznetsovo and Kholm villages);
  3. Apple Tree-Estonian National Village Council (Estonian Apple Tree colony).

Also, since 1926, the city of Kresttsi was transformed into a village.

According to the decree of the All-Russian Central Executive Committee, on August 1, 1927, the Valdai County was abolished, and its territory became part of the newly formed Bologovsky , Valdai , Uglovsky , Rozhdestvensky , Opechensky and Okulovsky districts of the Borovichi District , as well as the Krestetsky , Luzhensky and Polnovsky Districts of the Novgorod District in the Leningrad Region of the RSF .
