History
Although lately there has been noticeable progress in the teamβs game, in the 20th century the team was unable to achieve anything on the international stage.
For the first time, Ecuador took part in the qualification for the 1962 World Cup , but could not pass Argentina , having been defeated in two matches. The team was close to getting into the 1966 World Cup , but she was again unlucky in recent matches. In the qualifying tournament for the 2002 World Cup, Ecuador sensationally took second place, losing only to Argentina and beating Brazil by 1 point. Agustin Delgado with 9 goals took second place in the list of scorers, losing only to Argentine Hernan Crespo . The leaders on the team were Alex Aginaga, Ivan Caviedes, Ivan Hurtado and Ulises de la Cruz, and coached by Colombian Hernan Dario Gomez . Although the team was not able to overcome the group stage in the championship, it managed to beat Croatia's fairly strong team 1-0, which took third place in the previous world championship.
The unsuccessful play at the America's Cup 2004 in Peru led to the resignation of Gomez, who was succeeded by another Colombian, Luis Suarez . He led the team to third place in the qualifying round for the 2006 World Cup . In Germany, Ecuador left the group, beating Poland and Costa Rica, and in the 1/8 finals lost to England 0: 1.
In 2007, the youth team of Ecuador won the Pan American Games for the first time in its history.
The best result of the team in the America's Cup was 4th place in 1993 .

However, in connection with the FIFA regulations, number 11 had to be returned to the national team for the 2014 World Cup [3] .
