Geographical position
The city is located on the western plateau of Colorado . According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 14.1 square miles (36.4 km²), of which 14.0 square miles (36.3 km²) is land and 0.04 square miles (0.1 km) ²) its (0.28%) water.
History
The first attempt to populate the area was made on June 7, 1858. In 1864–65, a fort was built [1] .

According to the 2010 census, the population of Kanab was 4,312 people (of which 48.4% were men and 51.6% were women), the city had 1,729 households and 1,130 families. 1999 buildings with an average density of 141.8 buildings per square kilometer of land were located on the territory of the city. Racial composition : white - 96.2%, African Americans - 0.3%, Asians - 0.3%, Native Americans - 1.0%. 4.2% are of Hispanic origin [2] .
The population of the city by age range according to the 2010 census was as follows: 25.4% - residents under 18 years old, 3.3% - between 18 and 21 years old, 51.3% - from 21 to 65 years old and 20.0% - at the age of 65 years and older. The average age of the population is 41.8 years. For every 100 women in Kanab, there are 94.0 men, while for every 100 adult women there are already 89.1 men of comparable age [2] .
Of 1729 households, 65.4% were families: 56.2% of couples living together (20.9% with children under 18 years of age); 6.7% are women living without husbands and 2.5% are men living without wives. 34.6% did not have a family. On average, 2.44 people conduct households, and the average family size is 3.08 people. 30.9% of the population lived alone, 13.0% were single elderly people (over 65) [2] .
Economics
The city of Kanab is located in the center between three national parks. In the vicinity of the city, companies from Hollywood made several dozen films, mainly westerns. The main area of labor for city residents is after-sales service for tourists.
In 2016, out of 3,545 people over 16 years old, they had jobs in 1923. At the same time, men had a median income of $ 46,917 a year, compared to $ 40,174 of the average annual income for women. In 2016, the median income for a family was estimated at $ 66,646, for a household - at $ 55,266. The per capita income is $ 26,790 per year. 3.0% of the total number of families in Kanab and 6.8% of the total population were below the poverty line at the time of the census [2] .
