Biography
He was educated at the State Polytechnic Institute, but last year his course was sent to restoration work in the ancient monastery of Safar of the Akhaltsikhe diocese. There, students met Father Sergiy (Chekurishvili) , talked about monasticism and invited him to serve. The future Bishop Savva and his friend, now the Archbishop of Akhaltsikhe Theodor (Chuadze) , remained here without even taking diplomas from the institute.
He took monastic tonsure at Safara Monastery in 1989, at the age of 23. On January 12, 1992, he became a hierodeacon , and on October 4, 1992, a hieromonk .
Since June 25, 1994 - hegumen of the Timotesubani Monastery of the Borjomi Diocese.
October 26, 1994 was elevated to the rank of archimandrite .
On November 4, 1996, by the decision of the Holy Synod of the Georgian Orthodox Church and the Catholicos-Patriarch of all Georgia Ilia II , Archimandrite Savva was placed in the bishop of the newly revived Diocese of Khon.
When Vladyka arrived in the diocese, only eight churches functioned on its territory. By the mid-2000s there were about thirty of them, and several more were under construction. The women's monasteries of the venerable Sava Sanctified in Khoni , the holy Equal-to-the-Apostles Nina in Mathoja, the holy Apostle Andrew the First-Called in Samtredia , the Ascension Monastery in Udzlouri were opened. The Orthodox Kazbegi School, the Niko Nikoladze College in the village of Didi Dzhikhaisi and others resumed their activities.
On September 14, 2003, Vladyka Savva was elevated to the archbishopric dignity.
April 24, 2008 was elevated to the rank of Metropolitan .
