He achieved his first successes in 1914 ; winner of the championship of the cafe “ Regans ”, in the tournament of four he took 3rd place (1-2nd - A. Alekhine and F. Marshall ). In 1920 he drew a match with B. Kostich - 1: 1. Champion of Paris ( 1922 ). International Tournament in Margaret ( 1923 ) - 2nd — 5th place (with A. Alekhin, E. Bogolyubov , R. Michell ). In the championship of France (1923) - 2nd place. As part of the French team, he participated in four Olympics ( 1927 , 1928 , 1935 and 1956 ) and the USSR – France match ( 1954 ).
