Biography
Father is a Russian Pomor , mother is a Karelian . Since childhood, spoke Russian and Karelian languages.
At the age of nine, he began working as a shepherd, cook-sailor on a sailing vessel in a fishing artel, later at a sawmill, on the construction of the Murmansk railway . From his youth he was famous for his ability to tell tales . He was hired by fishing cooperatives, paying an extra share for storytelling in the evenings.
In the 1930s, folklorist A.N. Nechaev, according to M. Korguev, recorded and published 115 tales in two volumes under the title "Tales of the Karelian White Sea". At that time, this was a record number for one storyteller. Among fairy tales magical prevail. In addition to fairy tales in Russian, Korguev performed Karelian runes and yoygs .
In 1933 he joined the fishing collective farm.
In 1938, Matvey Korguev was admitted to the Union of Writers of the USSR , in 1939 he was awarded the Order of the Badge of Honor .
He was elected as a deputy of the Supreme Council of the Karelian-Finnish SSR I convocation.
The last years of his life he worked as a foreman on a fishing collective farm.
He was buried in the cemetery of the village of Keret .

Memory
In the village of Chupa, Loukhsky district of the Republic of Karelia , the memorial museum of local lore of Matvey Korguev was opened [2] .
