It was founded in 1994 as the national Finno-Ugric school No. 52. It is currently located in a typical school building (former school No. 18), built in 1963.

Content

History

The National Finno-Ugric Primary School was opened on September 1, 1994 in the building of Petrozavodsk Gymnasium No. 17 as School No. 52. 114 people were trained at the school, the teaching staff consisted of 10 teachers.

On September 1, 1999, the Finno-Ugric school No. 52 merged with the Petrozavodsk secondary school No. 18.

On September 1, 2000, the school was named after Elias Lönnrot .

In 2001-2002, a major overhaul of the school building was carried out.

In 2004, the school became a finalist of the All-Russian contest "The Best Schools of Russia - 2004" in the nomination "School with an Ethnocultural Component" [1] .

General information

The school is a base platform for educational institutions of the Republic of Karelia with an ethnocultural component. The school has more than 900 students, the teaching staff - 71 teachers.

The school specializes in studying:

  • Vepsian language
  • Karelian language (proper Karelian and Livvik dialect)
  • Finnish language

as well as English and French .

The school has language laboratories, computer classes, sports halls, carpentry and locksmith workshops, a clerk's office with equipped cooking and sewing classes, a gym, a library with a reading room, an assembly hall, a medical room and escort service rooms ( speech therapist , psychologist , social teacher).

The history museum houses the school museum of the history and culture of Karelians and Vepsians .

On the basis of the school, competitions are held for connoisseurs of Karelian, Veps and Finnish languages, and ethnocultural festivals.

Students from Petrozavodsk State University , Petrozavodsk Pedagogical College , Social and Pedagogical College and the University of Joensuu ( Finland ) practice at the school.
