Vyacheslav Ervandovich Kevorkov (born July 21, 1923 , Moscow - June 9, 2017 , Bonn , Germany [1] ) is an employee of the USSR state security bodies (major general of the KGB), publicist [2] .

Biography
Born July 21, 1923 in Moscow , graduated from the Military Institute of Foreign Languages .
Since 1945 he worked in Berlin as a translator of the Allied military administration in Germany. Then he served in the General Staff of the Soviet Army . Member of the exposure of war criminals of the former Reich.
In 1950, he was seconded to the Ministry of State Security of the USSR , where he began working as a detective in the counterintelligence system, and later worked as deputy chief.
In December 1969, on the instructions of the chairman of the KGB, Yu. V. Andropov, he created a “secret communication” channel for the top leadership of the USSR and Germany . The key figure in the secret channel between the USSR and the Federal Republic of Germany: bypassing diplomatic channels, he established a direct connection between L. I. Brezhnev and Willy Brandt , and contributed to the conclusion of the Soviet-West German Treaty (1970) .
He was friends with journalist Viktor Louis , writer Julian Semenov and was the prototype of Vitaly Slavin, a KGB officer in the novel and television series TASS authorized to declare ... [3] and the novel Intercontinental Node .
Later he worked in the General Staff of the Soviet Army .
In 1972-1982 - head of the 3rd department of the Second Main Directorate of the KGB (counterintelligence), head of the department.
Since 1982, Deputy General Director of TASS .
Since October 1991 - Head of the ITAR-TASS Regional Bureau in Germany , Austria and Switzerland .
Under the direct supervision of Major General Kevorkov, in 1975 a security service was organized in the system of the USSR Ministry of Foreign Affairs , as a result of which a number of agents of foreign special services were exposed. He was close in service to the chairman of the KGB of the USSR, Yuri Andropov . He also had contacts with Leonid Brezhnev , including through his daughter Galina.
Until the end of his life, Kevorkov lived in Germany, near Bonn , maintained friendly relations with Egon Bar .
On the 90th anniversary of Kevorkov, the Rossiya television channel showed on July 27, 2014 the premiere of a documentary about him - The Last Romantic of Counterintelligence [2] .
He died on June 9, 2017 at the 93rd year of his life in Germany.
