Athletes - 15 (12 men, 3 women)

Over the inter-Olympic four-year period, many changes have taken place in kayaking and canoeing. The Olympic program increased from 7 to 11 numbers thanks to the inclusion of a distance of 500 m for men - kayakers and canoeists. The generation of leading rowers has changed. So, in the Soviet team of 15 rowers, 13 were newcomers to the Olympic Games. [2]
The USSR national team was preparing for the Olympic starts Olympic champion, candidate of pedagogical sciences A. A. Seredina and honored trainers of the USSR I. I. Pisarev and V. F. Kaverin .
