Biography

Born in the city of Vladimir in 1909.

In 1934 he graduated from the Leningrad Transport Institute, having received a referral to the Hydrographic Directorate of the Main Sea Route as an ice reconnaissance navigator.

In 1936, together with M.V. Vodopyanov, he made a high-latitude flight to Rudolph Island ( Franz Josef Land archipelago ).

In 1937, on an ANT-6-4M-34R aircraft, Aviaarktika participated in the landing on the ice of the world's first drifting polar station North Pole-1 .

He took part in the search for the aircraft of S. A. Levanevsky .

Member of the Soviet-Finnish war .

In March 1941, with pilot I.I. Cherevich on the ANT-6 Aviaarctic airplane, N-169 reached the Arctic “ Pole of Relative Inaccessibility ” ( ). The aircraft was equipped to carry out strategic ice reconnaissance, the crew included scientists from the Leningrad Arctic Institute. From March 2 to April 23, 1941 N-169 flew three times to the inaccessibility pole from Wrangel Island , landing on ice. In total, the expedition spent 15 days on drifting ice.

Member of the Great Patriotic War : in October 1941 - January 1943 - navigator of the ship of the Moscow Aviation Special Purpose Group. He took part in the evacuation of the Soviet government from Moscow to Kuibyshev in the fall of 1941, flights to besieged Leningrad, ice reconnaissance in the Arctic. He completed 80 sorties on a Li-2 plane and 26 sorties on a Consolidated amphibious aircraft. In January 1943 - May 1945 - the navigator of the ship and the navigator of the air squadron of the 890th long-range aviation regiment of the 45th Gomel Heavy Bomber Aviation Division. He made more than 102 sorties on a Pe-8 bomber. The war ended with the rank of major , having completed more than 208 sorties.

In October 1945 , as part of the crew of pilot M. A. Titlov and ice reconnaissance M. M. Somov , he made a non-stop flight from Cape Chelyuskin to the North Pole and from there to the Novosibirsk Islands . The purpose of the expedition was long-range ice reconnaissance and testing of aircraft navigation equipment during the transition from a polar day to a polar night. In 15.5 hours, a distance of 4500 km was covered.

He participated in many other high-latitude expeditions.
