The administrative center is the working settlement of Sharanga , located 278 kilometers from the regional center of the city of Nizhny Novgorod .
Geography
Sharang district is located in the north-eastern part of the Nizhny Novgorod region. The area of the district is 159.5 thousand hectares, 85.9 thousand hectares are occupied by forests. The region is bordered in the west by the Resurrection region, in the north-west by the Tonkin region, the Republic of Mari El in the south, and the Kirov region in the east.

Sod-podzolic and loamy soils predominate in the Sharang region, in some places podzolic-marsh and marsh soils occur. In the general structure of the land fund of the region, forests and agricultural land have the largest share. Their share is 95% of all land resources.
Of the minerals in the area there are reserves of clay, sand and peat. Moreover, today clay and peat are used for industrial purposes - for the construction of roads, buildings and structures, improvement of settlements and the regional center. In the area, promising reserves of carbonate rocks and clay reserves for building ceramics of 1,000,000–200,000,000 m³ were discovered.
History
The first inhabitants of the Sharang district were the Mari . Gradually mixing with the new Russian population, the majority of Mari became Russified. Currently, the Mari compactly live in Sharange , with. Big Rudke , d. Kozlyanure , d. Rudomuchashe , d. Chure , with. Kushnure , the village of Bolshie Kilemarakh , the village of Melnikove , the village of Kacheevo , the village of Malom Reichvazhe , the village of Mars , the village of Paidusheve , the village of Chernomuzhe . On the territory of the Sharang district there are 22 Mari sacred groves .
The Sharang District was formed on June 10, 1929 , which became part of the Kotelnichesky District of the Nizhny Novgorod Region. The Sharang district as part of the Kotelnichesky District of the Nizhny Novgorod Region was located until December 1934 . From December 1934, he entered the Kirov Region, and from 1936 he entered the Kirov Region.
On January 6, 1960, by the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the RSFSR, the Sharang District was transferred to the Gorky Region - now the Nizhny Novgorod Region.
In November 1962, the Sharang District was included in the Tonkin District, where it remained until December 1965 .
In December 1965, the Sharang district was again restored as part of the Gorky (Nizhny Novgorod) region.
As of June 10, 1929 there were 20 village councils in the district, the population of the district was 38,746 people, the territory of the district was 1,800 km², the land area was 72,000, including 62,000 hectares of arable land.

In terms of socio-economic development, the Sharang municipal district belongs to the group of territories with an average level of development. Following the results of 9 months of 2016, the district took the 22nd place among all territories of the Nizhny Novgorod region (in 2015 - 26th place). Enterprises of agriculture, woodworking, food and light industry, small and medium business - constitute the economy of the Sharang district. For four years, the district has been involved in a project to support local initiatives. In 2016, within the framework of this project, 9 activities were implemented. The sectoral structure of small and medium-sized businesses in the district includes almost all types of economic activity (trade, catering, manufacturing, construction, housing and public utilities, transport, personal services, etc.). 361 small businesses operate in the region, including 265 individual entrepreneurs. More than 2,000 people work in this area.
There are 114 retail outlets, 7 pharmacies, 5 gas stations, a temporary fair, 11 catering facilities, 13 consumer services (including 6 hairdressing salons, 2 shoe shops, 3 sewing workshops) in the district today.

Agriculture
Sharang district is an agricultural region of the Nizhny Novgorod region. The leading direction in agriculture is livestock, the main activity of which is milk production. In crop production, the main focus is the production of grain and flax fiber. In 2016, the area under agricultural crops was 23 thousand 458 hectares, 8 hectares more than in 2015. Gross grain harvest amounted to 9 thousand 503 tones. Increased flax - fiber production by 163 tons. In 2016, 3 combine harvesters, 4 wheeled tractors, and 11 units of trailed agricultural equipment were acquired. As of January 1, 2017, 10 enterprises and 24 peasant (farmer) farms are operating in the region. Good results were achieved in the livestock industry. Total milk produced was 44 thousand 054 tons. The most produced milk in the agricultural complex Pozdeevo was 1 thousand 431 tons. Or 35% of the total volume of milk produced in the region. Milk production per cow in the whole region amounted to 3 thousand 682 kg. The highest milk productivity was achieved by Vozrozhdenie LLC - 4 thousand .480 kg, APK “Pozdeevo” LLC - 3 thousand 975 kg. Gaining momentum beef cattle. The number of cattle in this area reached 376 heads (2015 - 215 heads).
Two long-established processing enterprises, OAO Maslodel and OOO MPK Sharanga, provide direct assistance to agricultural producers. In the joint-stock company Maslodel, in 2016 4,537,000 rubles were invested in fixed assets (which is 3,771,000 rubles more than in 2015), production space was increased by 297 m², and revenue from product sales in 2016 year was more than 42 million rubles.
Transportation
The area is covered by roads with a hard surface of 60 kilometers. All roads are local roads. The transport network consists of 11 suburban routes with a length of 295 km.
Of the 94 settlements, 66 are covered by public transport routes. Daily public buses run 50 flights, in 2016, 444.8 thousand passengers were transported on suburban routes.

The system of general education of the Sharangsky municipal district as of January 1, 2016 (as in 2015) includes 26 educational institutions:

There are 1 thousand 171 students studying in schools, which is 47 more students than in 2015. Kindergartens attend 706 students.
In total, additional education programs in the Sharang district covered 96.7% of children, which is 12.5% higher than the regional figure.
During 2016, the educational process was carried out by 234 teachers. In order to provide the municipal education system with highly qualified personnel, great attention was paid to the following issues:
- increase the level of education of teachers;
- professional development of teachers.
All educational institutions are licensed. All 9 schools have been accredited. All schools are provided with free textbooks in full. All graduates of 9, 11 grades are admitted to the state final certification in 2016.
All graduates overcame the minimum threshold of points set by Rosobrnadzor and received certificates. In 2016, two graduates in Sharang secondary school received the medal “For Particular Success in Learning”.
In the branch of the Shakhun agroindustrial technical school 163 people are trained in the following professions:

Sharang District Culture House
Sharang district House of culture was formed in the thirties of the last century. In 1991, the RDK team continued its activities in the new building. At present, creative, bright, talented, truly extraordinary people, realizing their potential in various areas of art, are working in the “Sharangsky District House of Culture” MBUK. The spectators of the RDK events are people of different ages, professions, interests, nationalities, and social groups. Vocal ensembles of the regions of the northern zone of the Nizhny Novgorod region and mountains take part in district, regional and regional meetings, competitions and festivals. The Municipal Budget Institution of Culture "Sharang Centralized Club System" was established in 2011. It consists of 10 rural houses of culture and 2 rural clubs. In the rural houses of culture and clubs there are 8 creative teams, 3 of which have the title "People":
- The Mari Folklore Ensemble “Peledeksh” - has been working since 1971 in the Chernomuzhsky rural house of culture. Its participants are creative, energetic people interested in the way of life, traditions and culture of their people. Much attention in the team is paid to the revival of original Mari folklore, festive traditions and rituals. - Male vocal ensemble “Dobry Well done” - created in 1995 on the basis of the Shchekotovsky village House of Culture. - A studio for weaving Rozhentsov rural House of Culture - was opened in 1998, but until September 2014 was called the "Workshop". Studying the traditions of hand weaving, the preservation and revival of art crafts are the main activities of the Studio. In 2002 Studios (Workshop) for weaving was awarded the title "People".

Sharang Centralized Library System
On April 7, 1976, the decision of the District Council of Workers' Deputies No. 117 “On the centralization of the district libraries” was made. The centralized library system includes: district, children and 16 rural libraries. To coordinate the work of all structural divisions, a methodological bibliographic department was created; For the organization of centralized acquisition, a department has been created for the acquisition and processing of literature.
Taimiya Nikolaevna Naimushina became the first director of the Centralized Library System.
At present, the network of library institutions in the district is represented by the central district, children's and 11 rural libraries. Annually, libraries of the centralized library system are used by more than 9 thousand people. The book fund has about 109 thousand copies.

The main activity of libraries is the collection, storage of a stock of universal profile documents on various media; satisfaction of library, bibliographic and information needs of the residents of the district for all types of their activities. Libraries have clubs of interest, and many interesting leisure activities are held. Libraries are centers for reading, leisure, individual and collective creativity.
In recent years, the role of the information function has increased. At the central library there is a center of legal information, at the children's library there is the Comp @ s information and computer center, on the basis of Kushnurskaya, B. Rudkinsky, B. Ustinskaya, Rozhentsovskaya, Art. Rudkinsky and Pozdeevsky rural libraries - rural information centers.

Sharang Children's Art School
Sharang Children's Art School began its history with the formation of the music school in 1969. In 1975 an art school opened. Since 1992 exists as an independent children's art school). The school operates in the same building, built in 1966, with a total area of 644.1 m 2 ; 5 classrooms for individual lessons, 7 classrooms for group lessons, a dance hall, an assembly hall. The school has a concert hall for 79 seats, with a total area of 90 sq.m. The school has a license No. 66 dated February 13, 2013 for educational activities under the educational programs specified in the annex.
Today, there are 16 teachers in the school of arts. They give all their knowledge, experience and love to their students. Its graduates came to the school of art as teachers: Anna Vasilievna Kozlova and Yulia Alexandrovna Ermolina, Maria Alexandrovna Chernigina and Ekaterina Vladimirovna Rudakova, Maria Vladimirovna Rybakova and Alena Nikolaevna Busygina.
The number of students at the end of 2016 is 325 people, compared to 2015 - 298 people, the increase is due to the fact that 2 teachers left the child care leave, in connection with this, the recruitment of children to the choreography department opened.

During the past year, 365 children and 39 teams (590 children) took part in various competitions, of which they received the title of winners, laureates, winners of 93 children and 20 teams (including 267 children), (in 2015 - 537 people and 11 teams (193 children), winners of 53 children and 6 teams (131 children)).
236 students and 34 groups (517 children) took part in the International and All-Russian competitions, of which 64 were winners and 16 groups (209 children).
In 2016, the “Accent” choreographic group was awarded the title “People’s (Exemplary) amateur group of the Nizhny Novgorod Region”.
Sharang National Museum of Local Lore
The Municipal Budget Institution of Culture "Sharang Folk Museum of Local Lore" was founded in 1977. В настоящее время музей расположен в старинном двухэтажном здании 1905—1907 годов постройки. В музее расположены 5 отделов (залов): зал Этнографии, зал Флоры и фауны, зал Боевой и трудовой славы, зал Истории образования Шарангского района и небольшой отдел, посвященный жизни советских граждан. Зал Этнографии знакомит с марийской культурой. Особый интерес вызывает у посетителей панорама, представляющая собой часть марийской священной рощи, которая рассказывает о марийских ритуальных обрядах. Так как район населяли в основном земледельцы, поэтому большинство экспонатов рассказывают о крестьянском быте, прежде всего это крестьянская изба, двор и сельскохозяйственный инвентарь. Также в этом зале мы можем увидеть интерьер комнаты 50-60 гг. 20 века, принадлежащей образованному человеку.
Экспозиция зала Боевой и трудовой славы рассказывает о жизни Шарангского района в годы Великой Отечественной войны, о шарангцах, защищавших нашу Родину на фронтах второй мировой. В зале находится Книга памяти, в которую занесены имена всех шарангцев, не вернувшихся с войны. Так же особое внимание уделяется роли женщин района, которые внесли немалый вклад в освобождение Родины от немецко — фашистских захватчиков. Свидетельством того, что война затронула не только взрослых, но и детей является история Ленинградского детского дома № 15, эвакуированного из блокадного Ленинграда в 1942 году в Шарангу. Чуть меньшими по величине экспозициями представлены истории Афганской и Чеченских войн.
Зал Флоры и фауны рассказывает о животных, обитающих на территории нашего района и его окрестностях. Особо ценными экспонатами этого зала являются лось и медведь, а также рысь. Также в этом зале расположен небольшой археологический отдел. В 2014 году зал пополнился тремя экспонатами.
В зале Истории образования и развития Шарангского района отражено развитие района и его укрепление в различных областях жизни. Также посетив этот зал, можно познакомиться с продукцией, выпускаемой местными предприятиями. В зале расположены макеты различных территорий р.п. Шаранга, старинные карты. В 2014 году прошла небольшая реконструкция зала. Были приобретены выставочные подиумы для макетов. В зале появился стенд, рассказывающий об истории и развитии спорта в районе. Также информация на каждом стенде была обновлена и напечатана в типографским способом.
Отдел, посвященный жизни советских граждан, — «Советский быт».
Предметы советского быта всё чаще становятся музейными экспонатами. Каждый предмет в этом зале связан с какими-то воспоминаниями. Многое напоминает о том, что навсегда ушло из нашей жизни и никогда не вернётся. Советский быт — это особый стиль со своим набором приёмов, знаков и символов. Вазочки, часы, фотографии были ничем иным, как подлинной жизнью страны.
Healthcare
В больничный комплекс района входят центральная больница (ЦРБ) на 78 коек, 17 фельдшерско-акушерских пунктов.
Мощность амбулаторно-поликлинических учреждений 250 помещений в смену. На 01.01.2017г Всех работающих — 214 человек, количество врачей всех специальностей 22 человека, 109 средних медицинских работников и 83 человека младшего и прочего персонала.
В 2016 году в рамках пилотного проекта по оснащению Шарангского района Нижегородской области телемедицинским оборудованием для функциональной диагностики с возможностью удалённой передачи и хранения обработки данных поставлено оборудование на 17 ФАПах Шарангского района:
— компьютер (ноутбук),
— принтер, модем, для передачи информации в частности ЭКГ (электрокардиографии), данные передаются в поликлинику Шарангской ЦРБ.
На сегодняшний день все 17 ФАПов подключены к интернету и имеют телемедицинские комплексы, а также способны быстро передать данные о пациентах в районную больницу.
Кроме того на 4-х ФАПах дополнительно установлено следующее оборудование:
1. Спирограф (определение функции внешнего дыхания);
2. Анализатор биохимический крови (гемоглобин, холестерин, глюкоза);
3. Анализатор мочи;
4. Аппарат для измерения внутриглазного давления
Все эти аппараты переносные, портативные — можно проводить обследование на дому.
В ЦРБ дополнительно (в поликлинике) установлено оборудование:
1. Для ЭКГ мониторирования — можно снимать электрокардиографию в течение суток и видеть нарушения;
2. Энцефалографии (изменение импульсов мозга при заболеваниях головного мозга)
И эти данные можно передать в ОКБ (Областную клиническую больницу им. Семашко).
Sports
В последние годы при поддержке Администрации Шарангского района значительно вырос уровень развития физкультуры и спорта в Шарангском районе. Существуют и развиваются спортивные клубы, секции, сооружения для развития физкультуры и спорта в районе и укрепления здоровья населения.
Спортивные клубы .
Физкультурно-спортивный клуб по месту жительства при Доме детского творчества, где занимается 39 учащихся.
Детский подростковый клуб при пожарной части, где занимается 16 детей.
МОУ ДОД «ДЮСШ» (Детско-юношеская спортивная школа). Основана 09.04.2004 г.
Культивирует 7 видов спорта: баскетбол (3 группы), волейбол (6групп), футбол (8 групп), хоккей (2 группы), лыжные гонки (5 групп), шахматы (1 группа), спортивные танцы (2 группы).
В ДЮСШ обучается 357 учащихся. В штате 18 работников. Из них 13 педагогов (тренеров- преподавателей).
Спортивные сооружения .
В районе насчитывается 56 спортивных сооружений из них 16 (5 залов — 24×12 м, 6 залов — 18×9 м 5 залов малогабаритных) спортивных залов, 33 плоскостных спортивных сооружения (13 площадок для волейбола 18×9 м,3 площадки для баскетбола 24×74 м, 20×40 м, 14×28 м, 8 площадок для мини — футбола 40×20 м, 2 хоккейные площадки 58×30 м и 40×20 м, 1 теннисный корт 38×26 м. 3 гимнастических городка: два-40х10 м и 50×20 м, 3 футбольных поля 100×60 м,100х65 м, 95×60 м, один стадион с крытыми трибунами на 1000 мест, один бассейн 9×8 м, один тир длиной , 3 лыжные базы с лыжней, одно сооружение для ОФП, закаливания и принятия водных процедур.
Самыми крупными являются : Центральный стадион в рп. Шаранга, Старорудкинский спортивный комплекс в с. Старая Рудка, Поздеевский спортивный комплекс в с. Поздеево.
Спортивные секции
В различных секциях занимается 1177 человек, что составляет 903 % жителей района.
Из них более 700 мальчишек и девчонок занимаются в различных секциях. При спорткомитете работают тренеры со сборными командами района по футболу и волейболу.
Команды района, как взрослые, так и детские постоянные участники Первенств области по футболу и волейболу. Наиболее успешно выступают команды юных волейболисток различных возрастов. Они становились победителями и призёрами различных областных и региональных турниров и первенств.
На 1 января 2017 года в районе трудится 39 штатных работников физической культуры и спорта, из которых 19 имеют высшее и 20 среднее специальное образование, 3 специалиста впервые приступили к работе в 2016 году.
Детско-юношеский спорт — особая статья в физкультурной деятельности осуществляемой в районе. Более тысячи двухсот учащихся занимаются в различных секциях. 420 человек из них целенаправленно тренируются в детско-юношеской спортивной школе и 856 человек (2015—705 чел) на ФОКе «Жемчужина».
В ДЮСШ работает 28 учебных групп по 7 видам спорта (волейбол, баскетбол, футбол, хоккей, дзюдо, лыжные гонки, сумо). В ФОКе «Жемчужина» работает 18 учебных групп по 10 видам спорта (футбол, бокс, волейбол, баскетбол, плавание, пауэрлифтинг, настольный теннис, аэробика, мини-футбол, лыжные гонки).
Во всех сельских общеобразовательных школах (8 школ) работают спортивные секции.
В 2016 году к занятиям физической культурой и спортом было привлечено 72 % детей состоящих на учете в комиссии по делам несовершеннолетних и защите их прав.
В 2016 году продолжилась активная работа с инвалидами и людьми пенсионного возраста — число занимающихся физической культурой значительно увеличилось. В различных секциях укрепляют свое здоровье 267 человек с ограниченными возможностями.
Большая работа в данном направлении ведется физкультурно-оздоровительным комплексом и центром социального обслуживания граждан пожилого возраста и инвалидов. Отделение пенсионного фонда в значительной степени способствует организации и участию пожилых людей района в Спартакиаде пенсионеров России.
В 2016 году сектором по физкультуре и спорту было проведено 98 спортивно-массовых мероприятий, в которых приняли участие более девяти с половиной тысяч человек (2015 г — более 9 тыс. человек).
В районе имеется 74 спортсооружения из них 24 спортивных зала, 37 спортивных площадок.
В 2016 году на муниципальном уровне было проведено 4 мероприятия пробного тестирования ГТО, в которых приняли участие более 3000 человек. Полномочиями муниципального центра тестирования ГТО наделен ФОК «Жемчужина».
Media
Районная газета «Знамя победы»
Общественно-политическая газета Шарангского района. Выходит с декабря 1931 года. Ранее называлась «Колхозный натиск», «Колхозный путь», «Сталинский клич» [15] .
2016 год для редакции газеты «Знамя победы» был юбилейным — газета отметила свое 85-летие.
Газета в 2016 году выходила в свет в обычном графике (2 раза в неделю).
Несмотря на имеющиеся проблемы с типографией сбоев в выпуске газеты в течение года не было допущено.
Соответствующее отражение нашли все значимые события областного и районного масштаба.
Вместо планируемых 104 номеров было выпущено 106.
Общий тираж составил 236 380 экземпляров.
Районное телевидение «Истоки»
Коллектив МП «Истоки» состоит из 8 человек, включая двух сотрудников редакции СМИ «Шарангское радио» . В течение 2016 года в эфир вышло 53 информационных выпуска. Еженедельное эфирное время составляет 1 час. В целях популяризации местного телевидения, большое внимание в течение 2016 года уделялось созданию новых рубрик, всего их в настоящее время более 20. О наиболее значимых событиях в жизни района рассказывалось рубриках «В объективе — дела районные» и «Гость в студии». В течение прошлого года (как и в 2015 году) местная студия телевидения «Истоки» тесно сотрудничала с Шарангской средней школой, на базе которой создана школьная телестудия.
