Story
The doctor and Rosa indulge in memories, and Mickey begins to be sad. Suddenly, the TARDIS is shocked by an explosion that throws travelers into an unknown space. The doctor finds out what threw them out of the vortex of time into the void. Landing takes place on Earth, in London, but in a parallel dimension. TARDIS inoperative. The doctor checks the ship and understands that without emergency measures there is not enough. The team remains in this world for 24 hours until the TARDIS recovers.
The world of parallel London primarily surprises Rosa, as her father is in good health and alive. Moreover, he is a successful entrepreneur. After a brief discussion, Mickey and Rosa decide to visit Pete (Rosa’s father) and Mickey’s grandmother, who live in this world. Everyone goes to their relatives. The doctor undertakes to accompany Rosa, implicitly fearing trouble. The Doctor’s fears are not in vain: a trip to relatives ends with the pursuit of Rosa.
Most people in this world wear special EarPods, which help to load a huge amount of information into people's brains. . It was also found that Pete's company belongs to a certain John Lumik, the owner of Cybus Industries. Mortally ill Lumik, in order to save his life, invents the “Maximum Upgrade”. However, he is forbidden to use his invention in public. In order to realize his plan, he secretly abducts the homeless and turns them with the help of an “upgrade” into Cybermen .
Meanwhile, Mickey visited his grandmother, who is still alive and relatively healthy. But he is being abducted, one of the abductors named Jake says that, firstly, Mickey (whom everyone around him calls Ricky) is the most wanted person in the UK, and secondly, the rebels (which is what they call themselves) have killer information about the atrocities of Lumik and his people against the homeless. As explained later, the "rebels" (they are also "preachers") reject the wearing of "EarPods".
At this time, the Doctor and Rosa appear in the house of Pete Tyler and find out that soon the whole political elite of Great Britain will be here. Pretending to be attendants, the Doctor and Rosa find out that the Tylers are childless. However, Tyler’s favorite dog is nicknamed Rose. At a party hosted by Tyler, Lumik's cybermen appear. The mansion is surrounded, cybermen burst into the house through windows and doors. One of the cybermen calmly explains to the frightened people that they are the chosen ones, because they have the opportunity to undergo a transformation into the cybermen version of "Man v.2". At the same time, he states that they will be given all the necessary mandatory updates for free and on time. Politicians are outraged and trying to break free. Jackie Tyler (Rosa's mother) runs to the basement, but this does not save her. Pete, Rose , Jake, Doctor and Mickey break out of the house. The fugitives are surrounded. Cybermen prepared to “remove” them, because they are “incompatible” with the so-called “update”.
