Liang Xicheng ( Chinese 梁思成 , Pinyin : Liáng Sīchéng ; April 20, 1901 , Tokyo , Japan - January 9, 1972 , Beijing , China ) - Chinese architect , historian of Chinese architecture .

The son of the famous Chinese philosopher Liang Qichao ( Chinese. 梁启超 ), the husband of the famous Chinese poetess and architect Lin Huiyin ( Chinese. 林徽因 ).
Biography
Born April 20, 1901 in Tokyo. His father, Liang Qichao, emigrated to Japan in 1898 , fleeing the execution , which threatened him as one of the leaders of the defeated party of reformers.
Liang Xicheng first came to China with his father who returned to his homeland in 1911.
From 1915 to 1923 he studied at the Tsinghua Polytechnic Institute in Beijing.
In 1924 he entered the Department of Architecture of the University of Pennsylvania , which he graduated with a Master of Architecture in 1927 .
In 1946 he wrote in English the book "Illustrated History of Chinese Architecture" (published in 1980 ).
In the same year he came to the United States to give lectures on Chinese architecture at the invitation of Princeton and Yale universities. In the United States, he also joined a group of renowned architects who designed the UN Headquarters .
However, already in 1947, due to his wife’s illness, he hurriedly returned to China.
In 1948 he was elected academician of the Academy of Sinik ( Chinese: 中央研究院 ). In the same year he received an honorary doctorate from Princeton University.
In 1959 he joined the CCP .
In addition to contributing to the development of the history of Chinese architecture, which is considered one of the pioneers, Liang Xicheng also participated in urban planning and architectural design in Beijing, in creating sketches of the National Emblem of the People's Republic of China , the project of the Monument to People's Heroes , Monument House of Monk Qianzhen in Yangzhou and other facilities.
From 1946 to 1972 he taught at Tsinghua Polytechnic University .
He died in Beijing on January 9, 1972.
