A-la Belle Poule (à la belle bullets) - a ladies' high hairstyle from own and false hair, created in the era of Marie Antoinette . It is named after the famous frigate Belle Poule , who fought with the English frigate HMS Arethuse in 1778 .
Creation History
The a-la Belle Poule hairstyle is considered a certain symbol of the refined and luxuriously excessive 18th century. However, this is not true. High hairstyles of this kind appeared only in the last third of the eighteenth century, and specifically a-la Belle Poule was in fashion for only a few weeks ... (See details - European hairstyle of the eighteenth century ).
In the late 70's. In the 18th century, amazing hairstyles became fashionable, which were not only tall and magnificent, but also made up, as it were, a single unit with a headdress. Thus, the ladies wore “flower beds”, “fruit vases”, “mini-gardens” and other entertaining constructions on their heads.
Queen Marie Antoinette herself came up with these structures together with her court hairdresser (Kuafer) Leonard. It is believed that most of the ideas belonged to the queen herself, and Leonar skillfully directed the excessively rich imagination of Marie Antoinette in the right direction.
Of course, not every court beauty had such long and thick hair to follow the new fashion exactly. So the triumphal procession of hairpieces and ladies' wigs began: hairdressers bought their braids from representatives of the "third estate" so that the next client could boast of a high and elaborate kufyura.
The inconvenience of high hairstyles that prevented women from sitting in a carriage or portage was taken into account by Leonard. He came up with an easy folding mechanism (it was inserted into a wig), with the help of which it was possible to make a hairstyle low, and then again high.
The “theme” for the hairstyle could be anything - a new Beaumarchais production, scientific and geographical discoveries, and even political realities. So, in 1778 , the frigate 'Belle Poule' won. Leonard with his talented student-queen vividly responded to this event of international importance. So the hairstyle a-la Belle Poule was created. It was dangerous to wear such hairstyles: hair could catch fire from the flame of a candle in candelabra.
