Pertti Johannes Karppinen [1] ( Finnish. Pertti Johannes Karppinen ; born February 17, 1953 , Wehmaa , Finland ) - the famous Finnish rower ( rowing ), three-time Olympic champion in solo, two-time world champion.

Karppinen won three consecutive gold medals in the individual races at the 1976 , 1980 and 1984 Summer Olympics. Pertti repeated the achievement of the famous Soviet rower Vyacheslav Ivanov , who won in the same discipline at the Olympics in 1956 , 1960 , 1964 .
At the 1988 Olympics in Seoul, Karppinen took seventh place alone, and after 4 years in Barcelona, the 39-year-old Finn took 10th place in the same discipline.
Twice in a row (1979 and 1980) Pertti Karppinen was recognized as the best athlete of the year in Finland.
In 2015, he was awarded a personal (incomplete) pension (662 euros per month) from the Ministry of Education and Culture of Finland [2] .
The younger brother of Pertti Reima Karppinen (born 1958 ) was also a rower and participated in 3 Olympics (1984, 1988 and 1992). His best Olympic result - 8th place in doubles in Los Angeles-1984 [3] .
