Biography
Born in Moscow. Father - Peter Karpovich Manukov (Perch Karapetovich Manukyan) (1901-1971), Armenian, electrical engineer, mother - Lidia Alexandrovna Diligenskaya (1905-1985), Russian, from a family of clergy, children's doctor, was in charge of the “House of Foundlings” [2] .
She wrote poetry since childhood, but believed that she did not have literary abilities, so she chose the profession of a linguist. In 1953 she graduated from the philological faculty of Moscow State University , studied at graduate school in general and comparative linguistics. At the same time she worked as a translator.
The first literary translation was a collection of Swedish folk children's songs sent by Tokmakova to the Swedish energy engineer Borgqvist, who had come to Russia on business, who, having met a young translator, found out that she loved Swedish poetry. The first translations of the verses were made for personal use, but Tokmakova’s husband - Lev Tokmakov - took them to the publishing house, and they were accepted for publication.
A year later, the first book of his own poems was published - “Trees”, made together with Lev Tokmakov.
Tokmakova’s poems are designed for auditory perception, therefore they express a phonetic pattern, often syntactic, semantic and lexical repetitions [3] . Often found in Tokmakova’s work, the motive of silence, which in its own way complements the dynamism of her other poems [4] .
Member of the CPSU since 1975 [5] .
A wonderful translator, poet, author of beautiful children's books died on April 5, 2018 at the age of 89. Buried at 1 school. Armenian cemetery.
