Title

The scientific name of the genus is derived from the name of the Nicobar Islands and other Greek. δένδρον - β€œtree”.

Distribution

Nicobariodendron is an endemic of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands (administratively, these islands are combined into a union territory within India - the Andaman and Nicobar Islands ).

Biological Description

Trees up to 35 meters high.

The leaves are simple, opposite.

Dioecious plant . Flowers are collected in a brush . Male flowers - with two stamens , anthers open with a longitudinal gap. The structure of female flowers has not been studied.

Classification

The genus belongs to dicotyledonous plants , but there are no more accurate data that could be considered reliable. Two samples of nicobariodendron were described by Indian scientists in 1985 , but since then no additional data has been published.

In the Classification System APG III (2009), the genus is included in an additional list of taxa that do not have a specific position. In some databases, the genus is included in the Bereskletovye family ( Celastraceae ) of the order Bereskletotsvetnye ( Celastrales ) [1] . According to the Germplasm Resources Information Network ( GRIN ) website, the assignment of this genus to euonymus is doubtful [2] .
