Biography
Graduated from the Art Institute of the Lithuanian SSR ( 1960 ). In 1962 - 1993 - teacher of the Art Institute (since 1990, Vilnius Academy of Art ); Professor since 1991 . Among his students are Romualdas Charna , Danguole Dauknite and others.
Since 1960, he participated in exhibitions. Solo exhibitions were held in Moscow and Warsaw ( 1973 ), Belgrade ( 1974 ), Sarajevo and Dubrovnik ( 1975 ), Magdeburg ( 1977 ), Tallinn ( 1979 ), Weimar ( 1980 ), Vilnius ( 1986 , 2003 ).
Buried in the Antakalnis cemetery .
Creativity
He worked in the techniques of woodcutting (in the early period with a noticeable influence of folk art: the cycles "Youth", 1960 , "Vilnius", 1964 - 1988 ) and zincography with laconic lines. Created prints cycles (“The Full Moon Windows”, 1970 ; “Memories of Childhood”, 1977 - 1982 ), posters , bookplates , illustrations for the books of Judita Vaichunayte ( “Pakartojimai” , 1971 ), Balis Sruoga ( “Į mėlynus tolius” , 1981 ) and other editions. The compiler and author of the design of the series of albums "Lithuanian graphics" ( "Lietuvių grafika" , 1962 , 1964 , 1966 , 1968 , 1971 ).
He is the author of famous works of monumental painting at the Jura Restaurant ( Jūra ) in Klaipeda ( 1976 ), at the Faculty of Philology of the Vilnius University (sgraffito Nine Muses, 1969 ; Historical Portraits, 1980 - 1990 ).
Created a design for opera and ballet performances of Egle the Queen of Snares at the Lithuanian Opera and Ballet Theater by Eduardas Balsis ( 1976 ), Mozart's Don Juan at the Kaunas Musical Theater ( 1980 ), and Puccini's Bohemia at the Lithuanian Opera and Ballet Theater ( 1983 ) and others productions.
