Vorsma karst basin

The basin is located in the eastern part of the Pavlovsky district in close proximity to the town of Vorsma and adjoins its southeastern outskirts. From the north it is limited by the highway Nizhny Novgorod - Murom - Kasimov .

The relief of the basin is formed mainly by karst processes - the underground dissolution of readily soluble rocks of the Permian system ( gypsum , marl , limestone , dolomite ). The hollow was formed as a result of the merger of numerous karst funnels.

The sides of the basin have a stepped structure, which indicates the different age of karst occurrences in this territory.

Three karst logs depart from the Vorsma basin in the eastern direction: Chudinovsky, Solonsky, Myakulinsky.

The Kishma River, the streams of Surin and Bezymyanny flow through the Vorsma karst basin. The bottom of the basin is Lake Vorsmansky (Tuscany) . Its shores are indented with numerous sickle-shaped bays. The bottom of the lake is replete with pits, in which there are vyluuses - underwater sources, places for unloading groundwater. These signs indicate the karst origin of the lake. Currently, Vorsma Lake has been converted into a reservoir.

In December 2008, the governor of the Nizhny Novgorod Region V.P. Shantsev signed a decree on granting the status of a nature monument of regional significance to the Vorsma karst basin.

On one of the islands of Lake Vorsmansky are the ruins of the Vorsmansky Holy Trinity Ostrovoezersky Monastery . Its restoration is currently underway.
