History

In 1996, Mikhail Shirvindt , one of the leaders of the Live News television company, invited Pavel Lyubimtsev to the Live News broadcast, first as the author of the texts, and then as the presenter. As a result, the heading “Did you know that ...” appeared, the first broadcast of which took place on November 16, 1996 on NTV . The program lasted only a couple of years and ceased to exist in January 1999, after the default of 1998 [3] .

Shortly before the closure of Live News, the idea arose of creating the author’s program of Pavel Lyubimtsev “Zoos of the World”. But the project was not implemented due to the economic crisis [4] . It was launched a year later at the initiative of the general producer of NTV Alexander Levin [5] .

On September 12, 1999, the TV show Naturalist Travels was aired on NTV.

Due to the collapse of the NTV channel in 2002, Lyubimtsev left the channel on his own initiative, without even waiting for the contract to expire [6] . Altogether, NTV broadcast 154 episodes of Naturalist's Travels. From the fall of 2002 to the summer of 2004, NTV showed reruns of some programs.

From September 14, 2002 [7] to August 29, 2004, Naturalist's Travels appeared on Channel One [8] [9] , where they were closed due to low ratings [10] .

In 2003-2004, NTV wanted to lure Naturalist's Travels back to itself [11] , however, at that time Lyubimtsev had not yet completed the contract with Channel One, and after the channel closed the broadcast, nobody needed it [10] . In addition, at the beginning of 2004, problems began with the display of "Travel" on Channel One: the program began to fly out of the broadcasting network for various reasons [12] [13] .

A year and a half after this, on January 14, 2006, the program returned to the broadcast already on the "Culture" channel . Initially, the so-called “last journeys” were broadcast on the television channel — 17 issues, which were still filmed for Channel One, but were never broadcast [14] . Subsequently, the program began to come out with fresh releases.

For more than a year, Lyubimtsev tried to combine work both in Naturalist's Travels on the Culture channel and in City Travel on the Domashny channel [15] , but after that he made a choice in favor of the last program.

The latest episode, hosted by Pavel Lyubimtsev, was aired on August 25, 2007. The decision of Lyubimtsev to leave the program was influenced by the fatigue of the host (he managed to visit 44 countries around the world during the filming!) [16] , as well as the fact that Alexander Konyashov and Mikhail Shirvindt did not pay for the last 5 months of work on Naturalist’s Travels Lyubimtsev money [17] [18] . Shirvindt himself said in response that “we owe him no money” [19] .

From September 15, 2007 to June 28, 2008, the program was run by Marina Golub (41 issues).

From September 6, 2008 to September 12, 2009, the program was conducted by Alexander Khaburgaev [20] (48 issues). From September 19, 2009 to December 23, 2011, Khaburgaev hosted the program "Notes of a Naturalist with Alexander Khaburgaev" on the "Culture" channel .

Close

Since the Naturalist's Travels program since its inception has rested mainly only on its presenter, Pavel Lyubimtsev, the viewers simply did not accept the new presenters who replaced him [21] . For this reason, the program was finally closed on October 31, 2009, showing before this 8 previously filmed programs with Pavel Lyubimtsev as the presenter.

In total , the Culture channel showed 166 issues of Naturalist's Travels.
