Biography
Born in the Poltava province in a noble family in 1831. In 1854 he graduated from the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics of Moscow University with a degree in natural sciences [1] with a candidate’s degree and was appointed teacher of the Yaroslavl Gymnasium . In 1862 he was invited to the Demidov Lyceum as a teacher, and after receiving a master's degree in botany in 1867 for his work “A Critical Look at the Threading Family ...” he became a professor of natural sciences at the Lyceum, and also taught natural history at the Yaroslavl girls' gymnasium [2] . After the closure of the Department of Natural History in 1870, Petrovsky became a teacher of natural history at the Mariinsky Women's School.
He became the initiator of the creation and chairman of the Society for the Study of the Yaroslavl Province in the natural-historical relation (1864) and the Natural History Museum under it (1865). Under his leadership, the first herbarium of the Yaroslavl province was created, as well as the herbarium of the Moscow and St. Petersburg flora; An extensive entomological collection and a number of others are collected.
He died on March 25, 1882 in Yaroslavl. His grave has been preserved at the Leontief Cemetery .

He participated in publications of the Moscow Society of lovers of natural sciences and nature testers , in the Botanische Zeitung and in the Proceedings of the Yaroslavl Statistical Committee. In addition, he published:
