History

Dean Guitars was created in 1976 by Dean Zelinsky , who started making guitars at an early age. Zelinsky considered that the creation of rock guitar designs went into the stagnation stage and decided to do everything in his power to change this. The first Dean guitars, released in the mid -1970s , began to quickly gain popularity precisely because of their design, and also because their design was based on improving sustain . The brand name for Dean guitars was the V-shaped neck (it was previously used by Gibson on prototypes of Explorer and Flying V guitars, but it didn’t go into large-scale production due to the fact that it was too radical a transition for the company).

In 1986, Zelinsky sold the company, deciding to devote more time to his family, rather than making guitars. He explained his decision by the huge popularity of superstratum guitars, which he mockingly called " Floyd Rose 'with a guitar attached to it ." In the late 1990s , Armadillo Enterprises revived the brand , which later led to the return of Zielinski as executive and creative director.

Following the assassination of chief endorser Dimbag Darrell of Pantera , Dean works with his family and friends to create a memorial fund. The Razorback model appeared due to the joint work of Darrell with Zelinsky. Several modified models of the popular ML style have been released as Tribute Models.

In 2008, Zelinsky, due to internal disagreements, left the company and founded his own guitar business. Currently, Dean Guitars still produces a model range of Zelinsky instruments, however, in 2010 several of the company's own developments appeared and the production of classic models of electric guitars - copies of the Fender Stratocaster and Fender Telecaster continued.

Megadeth vocalist and lead guitarist Dave Mustaine used to play Jackson King V and ESP DV8 guitars . Since 2007, he signed a contract with Dean and released his line of VMNT and Zero guitar models.

Dean Electric Guitars

Classic Design

Classical models of electric guitars Dean Guitars are considered instruments of the following series:

  • Z : A copy of Gibson Explorer differs only in the branded "Dinov" head with wings.
  • ML : This is probably the most famous type of Dean design. Its shape is similar to the front half of the Gibson Explorer combined with the rear half of the Gibson Flying V. The mass of the guitar is distributed over a larger than usual area, which significantly increases sustain. The V-shape of the head of the neck, the string fastening in the bridge has 3 types: Floyd Rose, through fastening and Tune-o-matic.
  • V : Copy of Gibson Flying V
  • Cadillac : This model is almost as popular as the ML . It looks like the front half of the Gibson Explorer combined with the rear half of the Gibson Les Paul . This gives better than Les Paul access to the upper frets.
  • Baby : These guitars are smaller, less outwardly detailed copies of the V , ML , and Z designs. They are popular with guitarists who love the aggressive Dean style, but who prefer lighter guitars.

Dean Guitars in Russia

Systematic deliveries of Dean guitars to Russia began not so long ago [ when? ] , although they had admirers here before. For example, in the vast collection of guitars by Vladimir Holstinin , the guitarist of the Aria group, Dean guitars rightfully occupy the main place. In 2008, the Dean Day rock festival was held in Moscow, in which the Black Obelisk , Arteria ( Sergey Terentyev ), Mavrin ( Sergey Mavrin ) and the famous shredder Michael Angelo Batio took part . Dean guitars are deservedly popular in Russia among performers of β€œheavy” music - music where the instrumental component is important. Therefore, at the annual Music Moscow exhibitions, the Dean Guitars booth is never empty.
