The district is bordered by the Semenovsky , Urensky , Tonkinsky , Voskresensky and Varnavinsky districts of the Nizhny Novgorod Region.

The climate is temperate continental. The average air temperature in January is −12 ° C, in July + 19 ° C. Precipitation is about 450-550 millimeters per year. Climatic conditions contribute to the cultivation of most crops common in the middle zone of the European part of the country. The village of Red Baki is one of the oldest settlements in the middle of Privetluzhdy. In the XIV - XV centuries there was a Mari settlement.

Russian settlement of the territory of the village occurred in the late XVI - early XVII centuries . The first mention of the village of Bakah dates back to 1617 . In 1636, a church was built in Baki in honor of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, and from that moment on, Baki became a village with the double name Nikolskoye-Baki. With this name, the village existed until 1917 .

In 1923, the village of Baki was given the name Red Baki .

In 1947, the village of Baki was assigned to the working villages.

The village of Baki is the center of the Razin movement on Vetluga led by the Razin chieftain Ilya Dolgopolov. On December 17, 1670, the rebels were executed on the central square of the village of Bakov.

The main part of the district’s territory is located between the rivers Kerzhenets , Vetluga , Ust, Izhma.
