Attiko Metro

Attiko Metro ( Greek: Αττικό Μετρό Α.Ε. , Attiko Metro SA) is a company that develops the eponymous electrified underground passenger transport system used in Athens on the red and blue lines of the Athens metro operated by дочерττιιό Μετρό ίαα. Ε. (Α.Μ.Ε.Λ. Α.Ε. , Attiko Metro Operation Company SA, AMEL SA ), founded in 2000. In June 2011, the merger of Η.Σ.Α.Π. , Α.Μ.Ε.Λ. and ΤΡΑΜ Α.Ε. with the formation of the company Σταθερές Συγκοινωνίες Α.Ε. (ΣΤΑ.ΣΥ Α.Ε. , Urban Rail Transport SA, STASY SA ), Οργανισμός Αστικών Συγκοινωνιών Αθηνών (Ο.Α.Σ.Α. Α.Ε. , Athens Urban Transport Organization) SA ) [1] [2] .

History

Attiko Metro was founded in 1991 in Athens. The main focus of the company is the construction and expansion of metro lines in Athens and Thessaloniki . Attiko Metro specializes in the design of railway transport networks and their integration into urban infrastructure.

The current president of the company is George Yannis, associate professor of Transport Planning at the Athens Polytechnic University [3] .

Blue and red lines

Work on the construction of Athens metro lines began in November 1991 in order to reduce the number of traffic jams and reduce the amount of exhaust gases in the atmosphere. In January 2000, Line 2 and Line 3 were opened. By the summer of 2004, the line was extended to the Eleftherios Venizelos International Airport. All three lines have a tram station and a suburban railway system Proastyakos .
