History
The premise of creating a university is closely connected with the history of the sugar industry, when Ukraine was the main center of the sugar industry in the Russian Empire. The rapid development of the industry required providing it with engineering personnel, which was not enough, therefore, since the 40s of the XIX century, a number of universities, in the departments of physical and mathematical sciences, introduced the teaching of chemistry and technology, which allowed graduates to work in sugar factories.
1884, technical classes were opened in the premises of the two-year general education school at the Smelyansk refinery - the first technical institution in the history of the Russian Empire to train chemical technicians and masters of sugar production. For 1884-1917 p. technical classes trained 440 specialists. He trained specialists of engineers - sugar producers and the Kharkov Institute of Technology , opened in 1885.
In 1898, with the financial support of representatives of industry, trade, scientific and engineering workers, government agencies, including well-known sugar makers M. A. Tereshchenko, P. I. Brodsky and others, the Kiev Polytechnic Institute was established, in which the department Chemical technology of nutrients studied the technology of sugar, starch, glucose and fermentation. In 1929, a sugar department was created on the basis of this department at the Faculty of Chemistry, and then a separate sugar faculty.
University organization. According to the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR on the formation of branch higher education institutions by order of the Supreme Economic Council of the USSR No. 1240 of April 17, 1930, the Kiev Sugar Institute was established on the basis of the sugar faculty of the Kiev Polytechnic Institute (KPI), the sugar faculty of the Kamenetz-Podolsky Institute and the Smelyansk Institute of Sugar Industry. (KICP). The Institute had chemical (sugar), mechanical (sugar equipment) and economics faculties and was subordinate to Soyuztsukr of the People's Commissariat of Trade of the USSR (Decree of the Council of People's Commissars of the USSR, Protocol No. 19/672 of 06/12/1930).
In 1931-1935, the KICP included the sugar production departments of the Kharkov and Leningrad Technological Institutes, the Kiev Confectionery and Fermentative Institutes, as well as the mechanical faculty of the Voronezh Chemical-Technological Institute of the Food Industry, the faculty of mechanization of agriculture of the Belotserkov Agricultural Institute and the mechanical faculty of the Poltava Institute of Meat Technology . The first rector of the institute was Doctor of Technical Sciences, professor, honored worker of science and technology V. B. Fremel. In 1930, 450 people were admitted to the institute. At six departments of the institute, work was carried out to develop curricula and programs.
In 1933, the Institute was renamed the "Kiev Chemical-Technological Institute of the Food Industry" (KHTIPP).
In 1935, on the occasion of the fifth anniversary of the establishment of the institute, it was renamed the Kiev Technological Institute of the Food Industry (KTIPP, in Ukrainian. Kyiv Technological Institute of Kharchovo Industry, KTІHT) named after Mikoyan. The institute has formed a highly qualified staff of professors and teachers. Famous scientists worked here - academicians N. N. Bogolyubov, M. V. Ptukha, M. M. Kravchuk, professors I. A. Kukharenko, P. V. Golovin , M. A. Kondak, M. A. Kichigin, A A. Fuchs, A. Kirov, De-Metz , G. I. Drinfeld and others.
The faculty of the institute was replenished with its own scientific and pedagogical staff, trained through graduate school, which was opened in 1933. G. M. Znamensky, I. M. Litvak, V. D. were among the first dissertations for the scientific degree of candidate of sciences. Popov, M. A. Buzykin, P. A. Vechersky, M. M. Polyachenko, A. D. Kurylenko, N. Yu. Tobilevich. In 1933, the institute was also headed by our graduate F.K. Stefansky. In total for 1932-1941, KTIPP trained 2535 economists, technologists and mechanics for various branches of the food industry. In the pre-war period, KTIPP formed teaching staff, created a perfect material and technical base, and entered the top 20 higher educational institutions in the USSR.
During the Great Patriotic War, many teachers and students died at the front. Evacuated to the east ( Voronezh , then Biysk ), students and employees of the institute continued their educational, research work. During the war, the institute was completely destroyed. After the liberation of Kiev, KTIPP was quickly rebuilt in a new place, expanded significantly and turned into one of the leading higher educational institutions for the training of personnel for the agricultural sectors of the Ukrainian SSR and other republics of the USSR. The new construction of the institute was headed by the rector I.G. Gritsyuk (1943-1947).
In the 50s and 60s, the material base of the institute was practically restored, a new educational building, a student dormitory for 800 people were operating, and two residential houses for teachers were settled. The training and production base has expanded significantly: the second stage of the educational building has been commissioned, an assembly hall, a sports complex (500 m²) have been built. The construction of the third stage of the institute began, which took place under the leadership of the rectors P.D. Fedorov (1947-1962), Gritsyuk I.G. (1963-1970) and Fedotkin I.M. (1970-1974) In 1964 The construction of a new educational building and the first hostel on Nauky Avenue was completed, and in 1967 a new laboratory building was commissioned.
New specialties were opened (industrial heat and power engineering, automation and complex mechanization of chemical-technological processes), the organizational structure of KTIPP (the organization of new faculties and departments) was improved, technical teaching aids were widely used in the educational process, the training of teachers in computer technology was started.
The institute carried out a lot of research work. The volume of scientific research for 1965-1970 compared to the previous period increased by 3.5 times, and economic efficiency increased by almost 7 times.
The educational work has received significant development.
1975-1990 - a period of growth in the development of KTIPP, which is associated with the name of the rector, doctor of technical sciences, professor, academician of the Ukrainian Academy of Agrarian Sciences Ivan Stepanovich Gulogo , who headed the KTIHP for almost 30 years.
During this time, the training area of the institute almost doubled. New dormitories, a sports complex, educational buildings were commissioned. Much work was carried out to introduce active teaching methods, planning and organization of students' independent work into the educational process, the use of technical teaching aids and educational television.
The leading trend was the transition from individual cathedral to collective topics aimed at solving large-scale economic problems. The center for basic and exploratory research was a problematic research laboratory, established in 1978-1980.
In 1980, he was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor for his services to the training of qualified specialists for the national economy and the development of science and in connection with the 50th anniversary of the founding of KTIPP.
In 1993, KTIPP received university status and was renamed the Ukrainian State University of Food Technologies (UGUPT, Ukrainian Ukrainian State University of Food Technologies, UDUKhT).
According to Presidential Decree No. 266/2002 of March 19, 2002, the university was granted national status. From now on, its new name is the National University of Food Technology (NUPT).
