Medal "For Motherhood" ( Bulgarian. Medal for Mayorhood ) is a state award of the People's Republic of Bulgaria . The medal was established on December 13, 1950 in the form of two degrees. The first degree was awarded for the birth and upbringing of four children, the second - for the birth and upbringing of three children. Since 1966, the design of the medal was changed and only one degree (the first) was left, but it was awarded for the birth and upbringing of three children.

A medal was minted at the State Mint.
Medal Description
Medals of the first type were made: the first degree of yellow metal , the second of white and worn on a bow from a sky blue ribbon. The obverse depicts a mother with two children and a bust of George Dimitrov . The reverse depicted a relief coat of arms of the People's Republic of Bulgaria .
Medals of the second type were minted from yellow metal, worn on a metal block of flag colors and on the reverse had an inscription in Bulgarian “Medal for May Day” .
Interesting Facts
The prototype of the medal, most likely, was the Soviet “Medal of Motherhood” , established in 1944 . Both medals had a relatively similar appearance and statute. According to the statute, to award a second-degree medal in the USSR, 5 children had to be born and raised, in the NRB - 3 (for the first degree - 6 and 4, respectively).
