It is the 9th tallest building in New York and the 39th in the USA. The lower 23 floors of the building are intended for commercial use, the rest are luxury housing, which increases in size with an increase in the number of storeys.
Soon after the construction was completed, residents of neighboring houses on 55th Street began to complain about the whistling noise from the wind blowing through the structures on the dome. The city was threatened with daily fines for noise that lasted more than a year. The developers fixed the problem by removing the curtains and thus expanding the channels through which the wind whistled.
The dome, made in the Moorish style, is illuminated at night, and the building itself has an unusual octagonal shape.
City Spa Center is located near two skyscrapers on 57th Street - Carnegie Hall Tower (which copies the design of the concert hall of the same name) and the Metropolitan Tower.
Some time after construction, it became noticeable that the building was 14 feet (4 m) above the height. To compensate for this, the developers added a dance studio for the city Department of Culture on an adjacent site.
