Biography
In 1109, Hugo fought under the banner of the King of France Louis VI against the King of England Henry I , although the latter, in 1111 , managed to unite the noble feudal lords of France, including Hugo I Champagne , Count Troyes and his grandson Thibault II Champagne , Count Blois , Moe , Chartres and Chateaudeau , against Louis VI. The uprising ended in 1113 with an agreement with Henry I, whose rights to England and the county of Maine were recognized by Louis. Hugo remained faithful to Louis VI in subsequent years, full of conflicts between Louis and Henry I.
Around 1116, Hugo married Matilda, daughter of Gauthier , Senor Mayenne .
In 1124, Henry I entered into an alliance with the Holy Roman Emperor Henry V , who invaded Champagne , going to Reims , where he stayed, thanks to the army, which also included the units of Hugo II. Henry V was forced to return to Germany.
Apart from these two conflicts, Hugo did not participate in the suppression of other rebellions. He died in 1143 , passing the duchy to his eldest son Ed .
