On April 2, 1993, President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev signed a decree “On the Establishment of the Naval Forces of the Republic of Kazakhstan”. The Navy was created on August 17, 1996 [1] . The main tasks of the Navy:
- Protection of the inviolability of the state border, territorial integrity, sovereignty and economic interests of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the Kazakhstan sector of the Caspian Sea.

- Protection and defense of water areas, including port areas, as well as platforms and artificial islands with oil and gas production facilities located on them.
- Conducting anti-submarine diversion defense.
- Providing from the sea the actions of the Ground Forces, ensuring the landing of naval assault forces , the transport of troops and materiel, and the sweeping of sea mines.
- Conducting reconnaissance operations, including radar surveillance at sea in the interests of the country's air defense .
- Fulfillment of tasks of joint defense with the naval forces of the Caspian littoral states in accordance with international treaties.
- Posting oil vessels ( tankers ) and other civilian vessels.
- Navigational and hydrographic safety of navigation.
- Implementation of search and rescue operations at sea in cooperation with the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
- The development of combat training missions in conjunction with the formations and units of the Armed Forces, other troops and military units of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
- Training of naval specialists on the basis of the Naval Institute of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
- Assistance to the state bodies of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the implementation of environmental and control functions, as well as in the elimination of the consequences of environmental and marine disasters.
Content
History
On November 17, 1997, the Navy was transferred to the naval units of the border service (“border guard forces”) of the National Security Committee of Kazakhstan [2] .
In 1999, one patrol boat AB-25 Türk was received from Turkey. Decommissioned.
In 2001, one AB-25 Türk patrol boat built in 1970 was received from Turkey, which burned down in the same year due to personnel negligence.
On February 17, 2003, Minister of Defense of Kazakhstan M. Altynbaev announced the need “to ensure the safety of oil-bearing regions in the Caspian Sea”.
In 2006, three artillery boats of the Sea Dolphin type were received from South Korea, but due to their technical condition they did not actually carry out combat service. All boats in 2014 decommissioned.
In 2008, the hydrographic vessel Zhayik was received from Astrakhan. It was planned to purchase 6 rocket-artillery ships of project 21632 Tornado [3] . The deal fell through.
In 2009, the Navy transferred five lighthouses located in the Kazakhstan sector of the Caspian Sea and a hydrographic vessel [4] .
In 2010, JSC “Ural Plant Zenit” received an order from the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Kazakhstan for the construction of a small missile and artillery ship.
April 25, 2012 the ship "Kazakhstan" was launched.
In the spring of 2012, the first call was made to the Navy of the Republic of Kazakhstan [5] .
Current status
The structure and composition of the Navy of the Republic of Kazakhstan
The structure of the Navy is determined by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan and includes:
- military authorities

- military schools
The Navy includes the Marine Corps , coastal artillery and the Caspian Flotilla. The main base of the Navy is the seaport of Aktau .
Military schools included the Aktau Naval Institute, which trained specialists in three specialties: navigator , electric diesel-electricians, and radio-technical weapons and communications.
The Aktau Naval Institute was closed in 2011.
