Development

The development was led by David Jones , creator of the original GTA . The project was developed by Realtime Worlds . Due to financial problems, the company filed for bankruptcy and therefore Realtime Worlds closed all APB servers and the official website. The game went out of sale on September 16, 2010. But on November 11, 2010, it became known about the new owner of the game, it turned out to be GamersFirst. The game was bought by the publisher GamersFirst and began to spread through the F2P system. February 28, 2011 began a closed beta test of the game. The game’s open beta test began on May 23 at 17:00 Moscow time.

The Innova company has concluded an agreement with GamersFirst on the exclusive publication of the All Points Bulletin Reloaded (ARV) project in Russia and the CIS countries [1] .

December 27, 2016 Innova announced the closure of the server in Russia on February 1, 2017. They promise to transfer players from Innova to a separate Nekrova server (the players were asked to choose a name for the new server themselves) by summer. At the moment, we are testing the transferred characters on a special test OTW server.

Gameplay

In the city of San Paro, there are two warring parties - security forces and criminals. In normal game mode, it is impossible to kill anyone, except for citizens and players who have a reputation level of “5” (their name and title become golden, they can also kill you). Missions are built around a network of triggers. The descent of any of them leads to a conflict between players of different beliefs. For example, if a bank is robbed, the alarm will go off and the siloviki will arrive at the scene. Another example: a unit of the Siloviks goes to search the warehouse of bandits, Criminals must protect it. Moreover, the conflict is built between two small units. That is, if a player encounters a confrontation between two units, and does not belong to any of them, then he will not be able to help the allied unit until he enters it. Security officials must patrol the territory of the city, protect civilians, and criminals - on the contrary, will seize the territory of the security forces, steal, kill. Security officials can arrest stunned bandits and get paid for it ($ 15 for stunning and $ 75 for the arrest itself, the reward grows depending on the reputation of the security officer), and bandits can rob passers-by (about $ 5, the reward grows depending on the authority of the crime). San Paro itself is divided into seven different areas, two fighting, one general (social), and two fighting clubs:

  • The general district (Social district) - there are many shops, shopping centers, a place for part-time jobs, etc. Fighting is not conducted.
  • Business district (Financial district) - the first military area,
  • Waterfront - The second combat area.
  • 2 Fighting Club Districts - part of the port area and a Nuthouse for making money. The games in it resemble the classic Team Deathmatch mode. In the port area of the fighting club, the game goes before one of the teams makes 100 kills of the players of the other side. In the nuthouse, one of the teams needs to capture and hold points, and the other to capture them.
  • 2 Battle districts of the Open Conflict mode - These are the same combat districts of Portovy and Delovoy but with the special Open Conflict mode. The essence of the regime is that in these areas there is completely no balance and threat levels, the player cannot see the ranks of other players, as well as the level of threat. Other players will also not be able to see your threat level. Also, there is no system for selecting players in missions. A squad of four players may fall against one player, but there will be an opportunity to call for help. In this mode, the threat level does not decrease. But you can increase the rank of the player.

Factions in the game

There are two fractions in the game - Crimes and Siloviki. Each faction has two groups with which the player can cooperate in order to gain access to new items.

The siloviki are represented in the form of two main organizations:

  • The Prentiss Tigers are wealthy students from the first-class and tranquil Prentiss Quarter in the Waterfront who have come together to protect their community from criminals. Are the dream of any advertising agent - young, beautiful and respectable. The combat core of this organization is the athletes of higher educational institutions of San Paro.
  • The Praetorian Guard is a private combat organization sponsored by various private companies and wealthy residents of the city of San Paro. The backbone of this group is the former military, who managed to go through many hot spots around the world.

Crimes are presented in the following groups:

  • Gee Kings is a criminal organization based in the Grey Ghetto Quarter in the Business District. Forced to literally fight for their existence, as others look at them as if they were unnecessary garbage. Sponsored by some wealthy San Paro residents in conflict with the current leadership of the city. Fighting skeleton make up the skeleton of punks.
  • Blood and Roses is a criminal organization consisting of the children of wealthy residents of the city, absolutely spitting on laws issued by the government. They are an arrogant gang and think that they have no equal in the city. This group is sponsored by wealthy residents of San Paro, as well as some private companies in the city.

Character customization

APB has a very wide character customization system. Any little things, such as tattoos, emblems, scars, allow you to create a unique character. You can also choose gender, hairstyle, hair color, height, weight and change the proportions of the body and face. In the presence of a wide selection of clothes and accessories, which also have the ability to apply drawings and color changes.

APB: Reloaded

Realtime Worlds filed for bankruptcy. “Many people will be interested in the project. If not the game itself, then its technology, since the ability to customize the character in APB is simply incredible, ”said Codemasters employee David Solari. And so it happened.

In November 2010, GamersFirst announced that their own studio, Reloaded Productions, had all the rights to develop APB: All Points Bulletin.

The game will be called APB: Reloaded, and its release is planned for the first half of 2011. The APB Reloaded closed beta test was launched in March 2011, on American servers. The European OBT servers were opened on May 23. The game’s official release took place on December 7th, and in January, Innova’s CBT of Russian servers began. March 1 launched MBT APB in Russia. The release of the game in Russia and the CIS by Innova was scheduled for April 17, 2012, but on April 16, the Innova company delayed the release date until April 24, 2012. As a result, the game was released on April 24 in Russia and the CIS. APB Reloaded has been released on the Xbox One, the PlayStation 4 has not yet set a date. On February 1, 2017, Innova closed the APB project: Reloaded, the Russian Pioneer server ceases to exist. October 19, 2017 begins the transfer of characters to the server "Nekrova", created specifically for players from "Innova".

APB: Reloaded 2.0

Initially, APB was developed on a beta version of the Unreal Engine (even before the Unreal Development Kit ). During development, Realtime Worlds employees wrote plugins themselves that made the game so unique.

After the bankruptcy of RTW , the game code fell into the wrong hands. It turned out that the outdated engine and a large number of unique plug-ins do not allow making drastic changes to the game and quickly adding new content.

It was obvious that only the game engine update could solve these problems. A task almost comparable to developing a game from scratch.

About $ 100 million was invested in the development of All Points Bulletin ( APB is one of the 10 most expensive games in history ). A large team worked on it. It took 5 years to develop. The first concept of the game was in 2007. [2]

Later, the game fell into the small team of Reloaded Productions with a very limited budget (which has been reduced more than once). With the start of work on the updated version, some of the employees still had to support a live build (release updates, hold events and promotions, monitor servers).

During the transfer of the game to an updated version of the engine, it was decided to simultaneously begin developing APB Reloaded for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles. So, guys from Deep Silver joined Reloaded Games .

The small team and budget, as well as the complicated code of the game caused difficulties in working on the transfer.
