Biography
After the death of his father around 1065, Hugh inherited the county of Chalon . He did not have long rules and not much is known about his rule. He abolished the donation of his father, who passed Digoin to the Abbey of Pare-le-Monial in Charolais , giving him a dowry to his sister Irmengarde, who married Humbert I , the lord de Bourbon-Lancy . Only in 1083 , when Irmengard was widowed, did the abbey receive Digoin back.
In 1073, another church council was held at Chalon. In 1078, Hugo went on a pilgrimage to Saint-Jacques de Compostell , but died on the way back in November or early December 1079 . The widow of Hugo Constantia soon married the King of Castile and Leon Alfonso VI .
Since Hugo II left no children, the sons of his sisters (son of Adelaide Guy de Thiers and son of Irmenghard Humbert II de Bourbon-Lancy ), as well as his cousin, Geoffroy II de Donzie, presented the rights to Chalon. The only surviving sister of Hugo, Adelaide, became Regent until the dispute was resolved. Humbert eventually abandoned the county, while Geoffroy and Guy agreed that the county would remain indivisible, and both of them would bear the title of Count de Chalons.
