Biography
Vladimir Georgievich was born on June 12, 1921 in the working village of Raditsa-Krylovka (now an urban-type settlement within Bryansk ) in a working-class family. He graduated from 7 classes, worked as a toolmaker in Bryansk .
Since January 1941 in the ranks of the Red Army. In 1942 he graduated from the Armavir Military Aviation Pilot School [1] . Since February 1942 - on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War . By March 1944 - squadron commander of the 162nd Fighter Aviation Regiment, 309th Fighter Aviation Division, 4th Air Army, 2nd Belorussian Front.
Captain Vladimir Schegolev made more than 350 sorties, having spent about 60 air battles, shot down 15 aircraft in person and 4 in a group with his comrades [2] . July 29, 1944 was shot down in an air battle in the area of the city of Bialystok ( Poland ) and died.
He was buried in a mass grave in the city of Skidel ( Grodno region , Belarus ).
Rewards
On August 18, 1945, for courage and military valor shown in battles with enemies, he was posthumously awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union. He was awarded the Orders of Lenin, the Red Banner (three times), World War II degree, medals.
Memory
- A street in the working village of Raditsa-Krylovka , where Shchegolev was born, is named after the Hero.
- Also, a street in the city of Skidel (Belarus) was named after him.
