Mineiti Koga ( Jap. 古 賀 峯 一 Koga Mineiti , September 25, 1885 - March 31, 1944 , near the island of Shobou ) is a Japanese naval and statesman. 28th Commander of the United Fleet. Fleet Admiral (March 31, 1944).

Start service

  • December 17, 1903-1906: study at the Naval School (34th graduation)
  • 11/19/1906. He began active service in the fleet with the rank of midshipman on the Matsushima cruiser, then served on Katori, Otova and Suma from August 5, 2007.

Already the junior lieutenant was on the cruiser "Soya" (from 10.22.1909) and the battleship "Aki" (from June 1, 1911), and in the rank of lieutenant further, on "Kasim".

  • In 1917 he graduated from the Naval Academy in Etazim and promoted to captain of the 3rd rank.

Participated in the First World War .

  • From 1920 to 1922 - in the diplomatic service. He worked at the Japanese Embassy in France.

Upon his return, he performed administrative posts on the Kitakami cruiser until production on December 1, 1926, to captains of the 1st rank, and then again went to Paris, where he stayed as the naval attaché of the embassy until November 1, 1928 (in 1927 he participated in the Geneva Peace conference).

He commanded the naval base in Yokosuka, from December 31, 1930 - commander of the heavy cruiser "Aoba"

  • 1931 - the commander of the battleship "Ise"

From December 1, 1932 - Rear Admiral. In 1932 he was transferred to the General Staff of the Imperial fleet , where he held the posts:

  • 1932 - Head of the 3rd Department
  • 1933 - Head of the 2nd Department

From 1935 - again in the operational service.

  • 1935 - commander of the 7th division of cruisers. From December 31, 1936 - Vice Admiral.
  • 1937 - Deputy Chief of Staff of the Navy

Participation in World War II

During the Sino-Japanese War :

  • 1939 - commander of the 2nd fleet
  • 1941 - commander of the Chinese fleet. December 14 awarded the 1st degree of the Order of the Sacred Treasure

He participated in the development of operations to attack the United States in Pearl Harbor and the seizure of Hong Kong .

  • From November 10, 1942 - Commander of the Naval Base in the city of Yokosuka
  • From April 1943 - Commander-in-Chief of the Japanese Navy (after the death of Admiral Yoroku Yamamoto )
  • March 31, 1944 crashed in a plane crash, hitting a typhoon on a Kawanishi H8K seaplane during an inspection trip to the island of Mindanao . Death was not announced before taking office as successor - Admiral Soem Toyoda .
  • On May 12, 1944, he was posthumously awarded the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross with oak leaves .
