The Bodmin Beast is a big cat-like animal that has been seen more than 60 times in Bodmin Moore ( Cornwall , England ) since 1983 [1] .
It is believed that the beast from Bodmin can be a big cat ( panther or puma ), escaped from a zoo or private collection. An investigation conducted by the government in 1995 did not reveal any evidence of the presence of such animals, however, meetings with the animal continued, there are even video recordings; in addition, several cases of slaughter of livestock by some animals were recorded.
In 1995, a large cat skull was found in Bodmin Moor. The employees of the Museum of Natural History , who studied the skull, determined that it really belonged to a young male leopard , but it was found that the animal was not killed in England, and that most likely the skull got into the country with a carpet made of leopard skin [2] .
Scientists point out that usually the reports of the discovery of such animals are unreliable, since an unbelievably large number of individuals in the population is necessary to maintain their numbers [3] , in addition, the survival of escaped animals makes an improper climate and difficulties with food extraction unlikely [4] .
