In connection with the transfer of Sony rights to Formula 1, EA decided to release a simulator not of the current season (2003), but of four past ones to which EA had rights. The developers - Image Space Incorporated - seriously improved the quality of the simulation, raising the game to the level of competitors in this parameter ( Grand Prix 4 and Racing Simulation 3 ). In addition, the new game did not have a clearly outdated GP4 engine, and it did not seem to be made in a hurry, like the RS3 .

The game was welcomed by Formula 1 fans and simracers, and online championships began to be held on its basis. The army of fans has been growing every day and still remains, despite the fact that in 2006 a new simulator Image Space Incorporated - rFactor .
