The representative of the princely family Obolensky . By mother - the grandson of General N. M. Svechin , the great-grandson of V.V. Engelhardt . Born November 10, 1833. He was educated at the School of Guard Ensigns and Cavalry Junkers , at the end of the course of science in which on August 13, 1853 he was released as an ensign in the Life Guards Preobrazhensky Regiment .

In 1854, Obolensky was part of the troops assigned to defend the Baltic Sea coast from a possible landing of the Anglo-French landing , and took part in repelling the Allied fleet on Kronstadt . On August 22, 1854, he was promoted to second lieutenant and on August 30, 1855, on lieutenant.

Produced on April 17, 1862 as headquarters captain , Prince Obolensky took part in campaigns against the Polish insurgents in 1863-1864, for the difference in 1863 he received the Order of St. Stanislav 3rd degree and August 30, 1864 promoted to captain.

Continuing his service in the Life Guards Preobrazhensky Regiment, Prince Obolensky for a little over three years commanded a company and almost four years - a battalion. During this time he received the rank of colonel (March 31, 1868) and the Order of St. Anne of the 3rd degree (in 1865), St. Stanislav 2nd degree (in 1869) and St. Vladimir 4th degree (in 1872). On August 6, 1866, he was appointed the adjutant wing .

On January 5, 1874, Prince Obolensky was appointed commander of the life guard of the 2nd Infantry Battalion and in 1875 was awarded the Order of St. Anne of the 2nd degree, and on November 1, 1876 he received the command of the Life Guards Preobrazhensky Regiment .

After the outbreak of the Russo-Turkish War in 1877, Obolensky, together with the entire Guards Corps, marched to the Balkans . Under his command, the Preobrazhensky regiment took part in the battle during the occupation of the Iskarsky Gorge and Etropole , and for the difference, on January 1, 1878, he was promoted to Major General of the Suite (with seniority of November 12, 1877). Then in December he crossed the Balkans and participated in the battle near Tashkisen with honors and finally occupied Sofia on December 23. On January 3, 1878, Prince Obolensky was wounded in the leg in a case near Philippopol ; on January 25, he and Colonel Kaulbars arrived in Constantinople to coordinate a neutral strip for Albania and Herzogovina .

For distinctions during the Russian-Turkish war, Prince Obolensky was awarded the Order of St. 3rd degree Vladimir with swords and January 13, 1879 received a golden saber with the inscription "For courage . " March 30, 1879 he was awarded the Order of St. George 4th degree

 December 19, 1877, during the passage of the Guards Corps through the Balkans, at the village Tashkisen personally led the assault companies of the regiment entrusted to him and took Turkish redoubts from the battle, protected by a strong enemy. 

The next nine years, Prince Obolensky continued to command the Preobrazhensky regiment and subsequently received the Order of St. Stanislav 1st degree (in 1880), St. Anna of the 1st degree (in 1883) and St. Vladimir 2nd degree (in 1886). On February 26, 1887, he left the post of regimental commander and was appointed to be at the disposal of the Commander-in-Chief of the Guards and the St. Petersburg Military District , after which he received the 1st Brigade of the 1st Guards Infantry Division on September 16 of that year. On January 20 of the following year he was appointed commander of the Guards Rifle Brigade, on August 30, 1888 he was promoted to lieutenant general, and on September 11, 1889 he was appointed head of the 1st Guards Infantry Division. In 1891 he was awarded the Order of the White Eagle .

Awarded with the title of adjutant general in 1896, Prince Obolensky was appointed commander of the Guards Corps on March 29, 1897, but he died suddenly the following year.

Wife - Maria Vladimirovna Khrapovitskaya (1839-1911), their children:

  • Elizaveta Nikolaevna (1864-1939), honorary maid of honor of Empress Alexandra Fedorovna. She lived in exile in France, where she was a member of the Ladies Society in memory of Empress Maria Fedorovna; Member of the Union of Zealots in Memory of Emperor Nicholas II (since 1936). In recent years, she lived in the Russian house in Saint-Genevieve-des-Bois.
  • Vladimir (1865-1927) - Major General, commander of the Life Guards Preobrazhensky Regiment during the First World War .
  • Maria (1868-1943), wife of Count Nikolai Nikolayevich Grabbe .
  • Alexander (1872-1924) - major general, St. Petersburg police chief.
