Biography
Born into a poor merchant family.
In his thirtieth year of life, he learned to make gold and silver notches on gun trunks (he became a recognized gunman) and locks, cut various stamps on stone and metal. Fulfilled orders for the manufacture of jewelry from gold, silver, diamonds according to their own designs. He independently studied drawing from nature, was engaged in drawing and shooting plans.
By the order of the Yaroslavl governor I. A. Baratynsky, he performed the “Album of Yaroslavl Antiquities” for the Department of Fates, for which he received not only a commendable response from the Yaroslavl authorities, but was also called for encouragement to the capital, where he was awarded a gold watch from the emperor, training was offered for abroad to the state account. For domestic reasons, Belonogov refused the offer, but visited all the "artistic treasures and rarities of the capital", wrote views of the city and its surroundings.
He died in 1871 in his native Romanov-Borisoglebsk. The house was preserved in the left-bank part of Tutaev on 2nd Ravine Street, where he lived and worked.
Works
In the 1840-1850s he created hundreds of works ( oil , watercolor ), dedicated to Rostov , Rybinsk , Romanov-Borisoglebsk, Uglich , Yaroslavl .
The species landscapes of the cities are accurate in details, the smallest elements of the decoration of buildings are recorded, at the same time a detailed panorama of the city, mainly uninhabited, is presented.
The main collections of watercolors by Ivan Belonogov are stored in the Historical Museum (Moscow) and the New York Public Library . Belonogov’s works are also kept in museums in Yaroslavl, Rostov, Rybinsk, and Kazan. Many works have not been preserved.
