Alfaprodin is an opioid analgesic, one of the prodin isomers. The strength of action is comparable to morphine or slightly stronger than it. Used in some countries to facilitate childbirth and in dentistry .

Alfaprodin causes effects similar to those of other opioids: analgesia , sedation , nausea , itching , vomiting and respiratory depression , which can lead to death . Moreover, respiratory depression may occur even when the drug is used in therapeutic doses.
In Russia, alfaprodin is on List I of the List of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances and their precursors to be controlled in the Russian Federation (trafficking is prohibited).
