Genesis and history
The ancestor is Semyon Dmitrievich Zaitsev-Dobrynsky, nicknamed Birdyuk , the son of Dmitry (Zayts) Konstantinovich and the grandson of the boyar Konstantin Ivanovich Dobrynsky, descended from the Kozozh Prince Reddy and who served under Prince Dmitry Donskoy . [2] [3] [4]
The first documentary references to the surname date back to the very beginning of the 15th century - Vasily Fedorovich Yarets Birdyukin -Zaitsev, 1405 [5]
The grandson of Dmitry Zayts , Peter Ivanovich, was a duma nobleman under Ivan the Terrible . In the XVII century, representatives of the clan owned estates in the Moscow district , served on the Moscow list and were patriarchal stewards . The son of the boyar Timothy Birdyukin-Zaitsev is mentioned in 1610 as a supporter of False Dmitry II . [6] Brothers Ivan Ivanovich and Kiprian Ivanovich Birdyukins-Zaitovs in 1646 - 1684 owned the patrimony in the Yaroslavl province , took part in the restoration of the St. George Church in Ivanteevka . But they did not complete the construction and did not consecrate the temple according to the new church rules, and ownership passed to the boyar family of the Sheremetevs . [7]
When submitting documents on May 23, 1686, the pedigree painting of the Birdyukins-Zaitsevs was provided [8] .
At a later time, there is no mention of a surname. There is a hypothesis that due to the reform of Patriarch Nikon and the church schism , the Birdyukins-Zaitzovs lost their noble status and the clan was divided into two branches - the Berdyukins and Zaitsevs . An example of such a loss of status due to a split is the Princes Myshetsky .
