Name Origin

It was named in the 19th century according to the church of St. Hypatius, known from the 15th century (the last building was built in 1757 on the courtyard of the Ipatiev Monastery , demolished in 1965 during the construction of the complex of buildings of the CPSU Central Committee [1] ). The former name is Stroganovsky Lane.

History

In ancient times, the place where the lane arose belonged to the “Glinishchi” tract, where potters originally settled (in Russia there was a tradition to settle representatives of fire-related professions, potters and blacksmiths, in order to avoid fires on the outskirts of cities).

In 1964-1967 in connection with the construction of new buildings of the building of the Central Committee of the CPSU (currently the Presidential Administration) in Ipatievsky Lane, the Moscow detachment of the Moscow archaeological expedition conducted research under the leadership of A.F. Dubynin and D.A. Belenkaya. During the excavations, the bridges of ancient roads, the foundations of various buildings, including white stone ones, were identified and various archaeological material was collected. After the construction was completed, the lane was closed, and at the moment most of it lies in the courtyard of the Presidential Administration.
