Description
The street runs from Balaklava Avenue to the street of Academician Yangel , is a continuation of Simferopol Boulevard . It is directed approximately from north to south; house numbering starts from Balaklava Avenue. The length is 5.2 km.
Throughout its length it is three-way in both directions. A dedicated tram line passes through its middle, a significant part of which has a fence that does not allow moving through it. The end of the tram line coincides with the end of the street: behind the intersection of Chertanovskaya with Akademika Yangelya Street there is a tram ring "Akademika Yangelya Street". Another (unused) ring of this line, βKrasnaya Mayak Streetβ, is located near the intersection of Chertanovskaya with Krasnaya Mayak Street.
In addition to Balaklava Prospekt and Akademika Yangelya Street, the street crosses Sumskaya Street , Sumskaya Proezd (2 times), Dnepropetrovsk Street (also 2 times), Krasnoy Mayak Street and Kirovogradsky Proezd . At the intersection with Red Lighthouse Street, a circular intersection is cut through for tram traffic.
Name Origin
Like Chertanovo district , the street inherits the name of the village of Chertanovo , which existed in this area (in the south-west of the intersection of Sumy passage and Kirovogradskaya street ) before modern buildings. The origin of the name of this toponym is not entirely clear and has several different versions.
History
The village of Chertanovo is mentioned in the materials of the General land surveying of the late XVIII century. In 1884, there were 42 houses in the village with a population of 339 people, there was a zemstvo school, an inn, a shop and two taverns. In 1960 Chertanovo entered the line of Moscow and since 1970 it has become a district of mass residential development [3] .
