The flag was approved on October 6, 1999 [1] as the flag of the municipal formation “City of Serpukhov” (after the municipal reform of 2006 - the municipal formation “City of Serpukhov of the Moscow Region”) and entered into the State Heraldic Register of the Russian Federation with the assignment of registration number 565.

Description
The flag description, approved on October 6, 1999 by the decision of the Council of Deputies of the municipal formation “City of Serpukhov” of the Moscow Region No. 136/25 [1] , read:
"The flag of the city of Serpukhov is a scarlet cloth with a width-to-length ratio of 2: 3, bearing in the center an image of the coat of arms of the city of Serpukhov (peacock), on the left side the flag has a strip for fastening the flagpole."
The flag description, approved on June 29, 2005 by the decision of the Council of Deputies of the municipal formation “City of Serpukhov” of the Moscow Region No. 540/83 [2] , reads:
"The original flag of the city of Serpukhov is a rectangular scarlet cloth with a ratio of width to length 2: 3, bearing in the center the image of the emblem of the city of Serpukhov."
Symbolization Justification
The flag is based on the coat of arms of the city of Serpukhov.
The peacock is the main element of the historical coat of arms of 1883 in the city of Serpukhov.
Red is a symbol of wealth, love, health and courage.
White color ( silver ) is a symbol of simplicity, perfection, nobility, wisdom and mutual cooperation.
Yellow ( gold ) is a symbol of strength, strength, generosity, and sunlight [3] .
Interesting Facts
In March 2005, Serpukhov’s representatives gave the city’s flag to space pilot Sergei Krikalev . The flag was brought into orbit.
After returning from the ISS, Sergey Krikalev returned the symbol of the city from space. The flag of the spacecraft is clearly visible on the flag. [four]
