History
It was founded in 1857 as a Museum of Polish and Slavic antiquity in the Grand Duchy of Poznan . The modern museum includes the Gallery of Painting and Sculpture, the Museum of Applied Art, the Museum of the History of Poznan, the Museum of Musical Instruments, the Military Museum of Great Poland and the Ethnographic Museum . In addition, the Adam Mickiewicz Museum in Smielow and the Castle in Golukhov belong to the system of the Poznan museum.
Near the museum there is a monument to the Poznan 15th Lancers Regiment , dedicated to servicemen who fought with Soviet troops in 1920.
Opposite the old museum building is a metal stela of the representative of the kinetic art of the German artist Heinz Mack .
Interesting Facts
In the museum there is a painting “Portrait of the artist’s sisters playing chess” (or “Playing Chess ”) - a painting by Italian artist Sofonisba Anguissola ( Italian: Sofonisba Anguissola ). It was created in 1555 . This is one of the first paintings depicting a chess game after the reform of this game in the 1st half of the 16th century.
