General Information
Victor is the eldest of two children Christina and Konstantin Hanescu; his sister's name is Irina. Now the Romanians are married: he and his wife Andrei have a son, Luka, Andrei (born 2013).
Hanescu began to play tennis at the age of seven. Hanescu considers the backhand blow to be the crown element of his game, he equally enjoys playing on clay and grass courts .
Sports career
In 1999 he took part in the first ITF Futures level tournaments . In 2001, in Freudenstadt, he reached the finals of his first Challenger . From the same year, participates in the Davis Cup in the national team of Romania. In 2002, he won his first doubles in the doubles and singles.
In 2003, Hanescu entered the third round of the French Open and the Wimbledon tournament and was promoted to the first hundred of the world's strongest tennis players in the ATP rating . The following year, he wins Rainer Schuttler’s sixth racket at the Estoril tournament. In 2005, in singles, Hanescu reached the quarterfinals of the French Open and was among the 50 strongest tennis players in the world. In pairs in his native Bucharest, he goes to the first ATP tournament final in his career.
In 2006, Hanescu played only at the beginning of the season and returned to the competition only at the beginning of next year, being in the eighth hundred of the rating. Having won three Challengers in a year and reaching the first single of the ATP tournament finals in his career, also in Bucharest, by the end of the season he again entered the top hundred. In 2008, he takes part in the Olympic tournament in Beijing , where he loses to Gael Monfils in the second round. He also wins his first ATP tournaments in singles (in Gstaad ) and in pairs (in Kitzbuhel , Austria ). At the end of the year, he again became one of the 50 strongest tennis players in the world. At the French Open in 2009, he won the seventh racket of the world of Gilles Simon in the third round, and after reaching the third round of the Wimbledon tournament he climbed to the highest in his career 26th place in the ranking. Immediately after that, he reached the finals of the tournament in Stuttgart in singles and doubles.
For Hanescu , the best achievement of 2010 was reaching the final of the APR tournament in Casablanca . The following year, he not only repeated this result in Nice , but also won the second doubles tournament in the APR in Acapulco . After two consecutive semi-finals in doubles (in Gstaad and Kitzbühel ), Hanescu entered the hundred best players in pairs for the first time in his career.
In 2012, Hanescu made up for weak performances in the Asia-Pacific and Grand Slam tournaments with success in the Challengers. From June to September, he won 35 matches in tournaments of this level with only six defeats and won three titles, moving from 153rd to 58th place in the ranking and successfully completed the season for the ninth time in ten years in the hundred strongest. In 2013, the most successful results in the ATP tournaments for him were the July semifinals in Stuttgart and Gstaad, and in the Grand Slam tournaments - the third round at the French Open, which ensured Hanescu the next end of the season in the hundred strongest. In pairs, he was harassed by failures: in the first half of the year he was unable to win more than one match in any tournament, and in the second half he almost did not play in doubles, ending the season with a balance of 4-13 in the APR and Grand Slam tournaments at 240 -th place in the ranking. The following year, Hanescu won one semi-final in singles (in Portuguese Oeiras, where he lost to the sixth racket of the world to Tomas Berdychu ), and Kevin Anderson , the 19th racket of the world and the first racket of the tournament, became the owner of the highest rating from his opponents Casablanca .
In 2015, Hanescu again focused on playing in the Challengers, but even there he did not win a single title, losing once in the finals in singles and doubles. In 2016, he held only a few tournaments, all in the first half of the year, becoming the finalist of the “futures” in Plantation, Florida in February, being already in 288th place in the rating [3] . After completing active performances, Hanescu opened his own tennis academy in Bucharest [4] .
