Angband

The game appeared in 1990. She is a "poklinated" and improved version of the game Moria . Ben Harrison , the first developer of the game, cleared and modulated the program code of the game, thereby simplifying the adaptation of the program code for subsequent developers.

The game takes place in the fortress of Angband - the second citadel of Melkor . The goal of the game is to destroy Morgoth , the lord of darkness. But even after the destruction of Morgoth, the game can continue, delving deeper into the caves of ancient Angband.

The game begins with a character selection. It is allowed to choose from eleven races (human, half-elf, elf, hobbit, gnome, dwarf, half-orc, half-troll, dunadan, high elf and kobold) and six classes (warrior, mage, priest, robber, ranger and paladin). Moreover, the choice of class has a significant impact on the game process. After that, the character enters the city with several stalls and his own house. In stores, the hero can purchase equipment and magic items. It is allowed to store things in your home. From here begins the advance to the hundredth level of the dungeons of Angband, where the main character expects the final battle with Morgoth. From the city, the player must go to the dungeon. Each new dungeon level is randomly generated.

All monsters in the dungeon are represented by the letters of the Latin alphabet, for example, the dragon is represented by the letter "d".

Successful fights with monsters, neutralizing traps and learning spells give the character experience points. Increasing the number of experience points allows you to get the next level of the character with an improvement in his characteristics. If the battle was not so successful, the hero dies, and the game begins again. Resuming a saved game where the character died does not work.
